the bark. As som.-e persons have found
tlifiicult to loosen ‘the bandage on the
stock at the proper time, it desirable to
have elastic substatnces that may remain
on without injury. If the matting be
not loosened in time, it will mind we
stock and bud to their injury, and in
some cases, if it be loossned too soon,
the bark of the stock will open and the
bud will be lost. '

ORDERED-—Tl.lat the Administrator exhibit
great pain: attempts were made by the
boy’s parents to extract the hook, but
they were unable to do it. '.l.‘lie hook
had become firmly imbedded in the
throat. Dr. A Walters was called, and
after many fruitless efforts, he at length
hit upon this novel and ingenious plan
to extract it. Having ascertained the
probable size of the book, a pistol bul-
let of suitable dimensions was procured,
a hole was pierced in the middle of it
and place upon the line of the fishhook
and allowed to slip down to the book.
The weight of the bullet, assisted by‘ a
gentle pressure downwards with a pair
of curved forceps, removed the hook from
its situation. Thus liberated, the point
of the hook sticking into the lead and
being protected by it, was safely removed

Sawdust for Bedding .H'orse.s.—-Tlie
value of the manure heap will be lagely
increased by attention to the following
hint from Prof. Nash's Farmer; ‘Such
is the tendency of sawdust, saturated
withlurnie and mixed with horse manure
to violent fermentation, that, unless kept
in a very moist coiiditiou or mixed with
large portions muck, clayey loam, or
charcoal (a little plaster would help the
matter) it will lose much ofits value (the
ammonia going into the air) and will
settle down a dry powder (fire franged,
it is said) little better than swamp mud
or decayed tiirf—not valueless, it is true
but having only a small part of the val-
ue of a strong ammoniacal manure.

its columns the names of Fremont and
Dayton, and is ready to do battle in the
