Jesse Reed owned a farm of three hundred and twenty acres, situated in Aurelius, Steuben County, N. Y., where he died, aged 63 years. He left his native town of Amenia, N. Y., for the wilds of Aurelius in 1795. and located on his land 1796. The history of Auburn shows that his farm is of historical interest. War having been declared in June 1812, and the Governors of the various States invited to muster their forces for the pro- tection of their respective waterfronts, and for offensive operations, the Aurelius regiment was assembled upon the farm of Jesse Reed. His son James C. w^as one of Auburn's oldest, and best known citizens, and for many years prominenth identified with Auburn's business interests. He accumulated considerable property, and in the care of his real estate holdings kept up a career of activity and usefulness.
