Republican Congressional Gains in
the State.
BOSTON, Nov, 10.——Chairman Drape: ot
the Republican state committee, who is
still at work on the state returns for Hails
and Russell, has narrowed his canvas,
which is an accurate and complete one
as far as it goes, to a very small margin.
Five cities and 22 towns are yet to be
heard from, which, if they do what is ex-
pected of them, will give the state to
Haile by a very small plurality.
Congressman Lodge, who looked over
the figuring, and who has conducted state
:ampaigns himself as chairman of the
committee, says he believes on the face of
the returns at . the state committee head-
uarters, Mr. Haile will beelected'when
t e cities and towns are ill in.
Two hundred and eighty towns and
cities in Massachusetts g ve or President:
Bidwell 4735; Harrison, 133,962; Cleve-
land, 150,880. For governor: Hamlin,
4849; Haile, 124,189; Sussell, 127,960. The
same towns in 1888 ave Cleveland 105 836;
Harrison, 122,509; ussell, 110,290; Allen,

In the Eleventh district Gen. Draper’s
plurality over George Fred Williams is

The Democratic “machine” in the city
of Boston has received its death blow in
the result of the four-cornered fight in
the Tenth district. In that district Mc-
Ettrick, Independent Democrat, is elected
handsomely. This means the “passing
of Mayor Matthew's” and a big split in
the Boston Democracy.
In the Second district Frederick H.
Gillett, Rep., is handsomely elected over
Lathrop, Dem.
Twenty-four towns of the First district
