He Was Refused. -
A well-to.do man aged over 80 years
came down from one of the towns on
dated road, the other day, and pro-
posed marriage to aspmster of some
.thirty years. living in,.town,

night before she had plighted her troth
to a younger man. But the best part

and had been refused; The old gen!
tleman is reported as having wept bit-

Was It Murder ?
William Brown, track-walker on the
Naugatuck railroad between Derby
and Naugatuck, was.i‘ound lying on
the track below Ansonia by the engi-
neer of; the 4:30 freight Sunday
morning. He brought the train to a
stop as quickly as possible, but not un-
til Brown had been struck and shoved
alongthe track for some distance.
The injured man was taken to An-
sonia. His skull was fractured and
he died in the afternoon. Dr. Conk-
lin, the medical examiner, investiga-
ted and thinks it a murder. From the
injury he concludes that Brown was
struck by a club and placed on the
track 'to cover the crime. Brown lived
in Naugatuck and leaves a family.

Fell into the Creek.
L. Clifford Bonnell, the Knight street
machinist, met with an accident Sat-
urday afternoon, which, however, did
not prove to be of a very serious na-
ture. He had finished some work on
the engine of the propeller City of
Norwalk. and went aboard of the boat
to get his bill “O. K’d.” The engineer
put his “0. K” on the bill and Mr.
Bonnell not caring .to walk around to
the gang plank, attempted to jump
ashore. He missed his footing and
fell into the creek, or rather the mud,
it being low tide. He‘ was fished out
with a rope. He received severe
wounds on his face and to one of his
hands. After the mud had been scraped
from his clothes and the flow of blood
stopped, he went into the office and
collected his bill and then started for
home for a change of raiment. He is
at work to-day, apparently but little
the worse for his experience.

night, of pneumonia, after a very short
illness. The funeral will be held on
