The Raymond—Ely Sensation.
Local society has been all agog with
excitement the past few days over the
announcement that Miss Dudlena Ely,
youngest daughter of ex-Mayor Dudley
P.-Ely, of South'Norwalk, was the wife
Mr. Charles T. Raymond of the same city.
It seems that the marriage was a secret
one, and according to report was consum-
mated in New York‘somc two years ago.
The most profound secresy has been ob.
served in “the matter, and no one-suspected
for a moment that the two parties were
. man and wife. Mr. Raymond pursued his
way as usual and was not often seen in
company with his wife. Mrs. Raymond
also acted as usual and for
some time has been receiving the atten-
tions of one or two of our eligible young
men. Indeed so marked were these atten-
tions on one of the young men’s part that
there were current rumors of their engage-
ment. .
The announcement of the marriage was
made at the wedding of Mrs. Raymond‘s
sister, Miss Gussie Ely, on Wednesday
night last. Those to whom it was made'
were thunderstruck and the matter has
been town talk ever since. Ascandal,
and particularly a scandal in “high life,"
is so precious a‘nut for our local gossips
to crack that all want a hand in mouthing
