The Chronicle today, referring to the
disputes between the different factions oi
the Irish parliamentary party, says:
“The people are sick of the miserable
Irish quarrels and the vile personal squab.

No Fight In Texas.
AUSTIN, July 17.—The general impres-
sion in state official circles today indicates
that under no circumstances will the let-
ter and spirit of Attorney General Crane’s
opinion adverse to the Corbett-Fitzsim-
mons fight be departed from, and it is cer-
tain the pugilists will not be permitted to
fight in Texas. The authorities in their
stand are strongly backed by the moral
sentiment of the state.
Poisoned Her Adopted Parents.
CHICAGO, July 17.—Dollie Belknap,
aged 14 years, adopted daughter of Flem‘
ing Server and wife of Uniontown, Ind.,
poisoned hcr adopted parents. When ac-
cused of the crime, she at first denied it,
but afterward confessed and produced a
letter signed by her lover, Hays Robins,
the son of a wealthy family in that neigh-
borhood, urging her to commit the deed.
Nez Perce Reservation to Be Thrown Open.
SPOKANE, Wash, July. 17 .——Lewiston,
Ida., has gone wild over the receipt of a
telegram from Washington, which con-
tains the news that by Aug. 1 the Nez
Pcrces Indians would receive their money
from the government for their lands. This
means that the N 92 Pcrecs reservation,
the garden spot of Idaho, will be opened
for settlement. .
Horse Thieves’. Ingenious Escape.
HENNESSEY, O. T., July 17.--The pesse
organized to capture Yeoger’s horse thieves
run part of the gang to cover in a. log
house and surrounded the place. After
20 hours’ siege the outlaws, five in num-
ber, forced two women living there to
walk ahead of them as shields to keep the
posse from shooting and got away.
The Princeton Student Murder.
TRENTON, July 17.—The trial of John
Collins for the murder of Frederick 0111,
the Princeton college student, on the night
of June 8, was resumed today with the
opening of the case of the state by Prose-
cutor Bayard Stockton. All witnesses in
the case had previously been excluded
from the courtroom.
Awheel From Salt Lake to Washington.
SALT LAKE CITY, July 17.—Private H.
S. Webbcr of the Sixteenth infantry, sta-
tioned at Fort Douglass, this city, left
here for Washington. He will make the
entire trip by bicycle and bears dispatches
from General Penrose. . '

LONDON, July 17.—The Trail plate of
200 sovereigns for all ages, the winner to
be sold at auction for 400 sovereigns, was
Won at Newmarket today by Mr. A. M.
Singers’ Virago. Banquet was second and
Golden Slipper third.
Strikers Return to'Work.
LYNN, Mass, July 17,—At a. meeting
today a majority of the cutters employed
by Welch & Londrigun, morocco dealers,
who were ordered out on a. strike, voted to
return to work this afternoon, which they-
did.

Bread Riot In Madrid.
MADRID, July 17.-—A serious riot oc-
curred today at Zamora. The bakers raised
the priCe of bread. This caused great in-
dignation, and a. mob attempted to loot
the bakers’ shops; The rioters resisted the
gendarmes. Severalofiicers were injured.

KANSAS CITY, July Id—Information
has just been received of a tragedy at Bean
Lake. George Maechel shot and killed
his roommate, Theodore Kirkman. The
men were wrestling for a gun. Maechel
got it and snapped it at Kirkman. Kirk-
man was killed instantly. Maechel sur-
rendered himself, but later he committed
suicide.

Killed In a Fight:
HAGEBSTOWN, Md., July 15.—David
Markey was killed on a canalboat near
Harper’s Ferry yesterday in a. fight with a.
man named Laypolc. Markey was struck
on the head with a heavy instrument and
knocked off the boat. His head struck a.
rock in falling, and he was dead when tok-
en from the water. The murderer was ur-
rested. .

Rochester Man Charged “71th Murder.
SAN FRANCISCO, July 16.—-Clarence
Barr, the Chinatown guide who was
stabbed by C. B. Henderson, a traveling
salesman from Rochester, during the
course of a. row over the payment for
drinks in the barroom of the Baldwin
House, died today. Henderson has been
charged with murder.
