house to-morrow evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Tolles who have
been visiting friends in Brooklyn re-
turned home yesterday.

F. C. Baird, Murray & Co , of Stum-
ford, made a trial trip by tally-ho from
Stamford to Boton Point on Saturday
last.

-David Reardon has severed his con.
nection with the N orwalk Yacht club
and Eward Gustavson is acting in his
stead.

Senator George LounSbui-y, of Ridge-
field, had two valuable cows struck and
killed by lightning during the late
storm. .

Ben. F. Andrews is heme from Wes-
leyan University to Spend the summer
vacation with his parents on West
avenue. _

The installation of the officers of
Palestine Castle will take place next
Monday night and the new officers will
give a supper. p' ‘

Frank Sherman and A. Dwight Keep
started this morning at eight o’clock to
Wheel to New York city. They will
come up on the Favorite this after-
noon. '

The first train of cars passed over the
trestle work over \Vashington street
this morning. It was a gravel train
load with gravel for filling in at the

ear of Olsen’s shoe store.

The Hatch-Diamond party sail this
evening on the Ward V. to attend the
Larchmont races. Commnader Bogart
of the Norwalk Yacht club will join the
party to-morrow at New Rochelle.
Newsman Coleman sent up a balloon
in front of his snore last night at eight
O’clock. There were anumber of spec-
tators present. To-night he intends to
send up a Japanese baby balloon.

May Ellen, infant daughter of Sal-
vator and Nellie Chariot, died last
evening at 7 o’clock. The funeral: will
be held to-morrow morning at 9 o’clock
from Mr. Chariot’snesidence on Lowe
Sire-ct.

The “Billy” Johnson Mahackemo
b-lse ball team will play a Darien nine
on the morning of July 4th for a purse
of $30. The gamewill take place at the
Baxter grounds, and promises to be

‘ one of the most exciting of the season.

The tower Operators on the Consolida-
ted railroad have received blanks which
they must fill out, giving their lull ex-
perience. No operator will hereafter
as employed by the company who is
not over tWenty-onc years of age, and
an experienced man.

Charles Knapp was arrested yester-
day afternoon for burglarizing the
Chichester place in Whistleville last
February. He pleaded not guilty br-
fore Judge Frost this morning and his
case was continued until 9 o’clock tc-
morrow morning and bonds placed at
$300.

The steamer C. W. Hoyt which has
furnished so much newspaper gossip
has been in New London all the time.
Sheriff Johnson of Bridgeport took
possession of her and had her brought
back to Bridgeport yesterday. No
iction will be taken against Captain
Hoyt.

Carlton Cornwell, foreman of the Gazette
Middletown, N. J., believes that Chamber-

Governor Atkinson’s Condition,

ATLANTA, July 2.-—Govcrnor Atkinson,
who was so near to death last week that
his physicians abandoned all hope, is
vigorous today and on the march toward
rapid recovery. ‘ None but the doctors and
the members of his family, however, is
yet admitted to the sickroom.

 

Nickel Found In Alaska.
TACOMA, July 2,—Pr0fessor Dell and
Dr. George F. Becker of the commission
from the United States geological survey
now in Alaska have discovered valuable
nickel orc ledges at the head of the Indian

river at a place called Silver Bay.

 

Crispi Is Now a. Prince.
LONDON, July 2.—According to a special
dispatch received here from Rome, King
Humbert of Italy has bestowod the title
of prince upon Premier Crispi as a protest
against the repeated attacks made upon
him by Socialists and others. _
