They have shown him the woapdn with
which the crime was committed. have tak-
en him into a room full of detectives, who
told horrible stories of other murders and
convictions, paraded him before the whole
park police force for identification and
worked upon his fears in every Way.
The “Good Son” Counted Gold.
They did this even at midnight in the
De Kalb Avenue station, where one of the
most remarkable scenes ever noted in the
annals of crime took place. in William
Henry’s cell the detectives and inspectors

er, the so called ”good son” of the mur-
dered man, at a table counting the gold of
his murdered father—the gel 1 which was
the curse of his whole life, w ich made
his home a bedlam and the price for board-
ing which was his blood—for there ismo
reason now to doubt that the old man was
murdered for his money, and that no ordi-
nary burglar or housebreaker committed
the crime. If the police ever hold such a
theory, they long since abandoned it.
They seize upon the fact that William, be-
ing the outcast, ordered away from his fa-
ther’s home, had made threats against the
latter’s life and therefore must necessarily
have been the parricide.
But There Are Others.
But his prompt surrender, the straight
story told of his whereabouts the past
affected to an alarming degree appetite
fell away, and he was terribly reduced in
flesh and strength. 'l‘hree bottles of Elec-
