Killed by Husband or Brother.
ALTOONA, Pn., Aug. 20.-—During a
fight between James McAvoy and his
brother at Tunnel Hill, a small town 10
~ miles west of here, James’ wife was shot
four times and instantly killed while in-,
terforlng in the drunken brawl. Both
men have been arrested. It is not known
which one fired the fatal bullets.
A Pathetic Suicide.
CHICAGO, Aug. 20.——H. B. Hess, a
prominent attorney of Indianapolis, was
found dead in his hotel here yesterday,
having taken an overdose of emorphine.
Hess’ suicide is supposed to have resulted
from despondency. as a picture of his dead
wife and a little shoe of a recently buried
child were found on “his. pillow.

Starved In New York.
NEW YORK, Aug. 20.——In the stable in
the rear of Mullery’s food store- at 10
Christopher street Friday morning an un-
known man was fOund unconscious. He

Germain Bronicc, 10 years old, became in-
volved in a quarrel on board a sloop, and
the younger boy was thrown overboard
