SAN FRANCISCO, July 26.—Word has
been received h re of the wreck of the
British wooden bark William La Lacheur,
778 tons, off Cape StuJamcs, on Porvost
island, 600 miles from Singapore. The
vessel loft Singapore for Hongkong on
May 4 to load ‘at the latter port for San
Francisco. She'went on the nooks 011 Cape
St. J nines, andout of a crew 013.17 persons
not a man was left‘to tell the story of the
wreck. ,
When she went ashore is not known.
but it Was probably a few days after she
left Singapore. When she left the lattei
port, light southwest monso‘ons were blow
ing, j which helped her along. Cape 'St.
J ames should have been made in three or
four days. The wind freshened consider-
ably after she started, and the bark was
"soon ima’typhoon.’ Captain Raynell, her
commander, was'on experienced__ naviga-
tor, but Cape St. J times is a deceptive
point. The mountain forming the cape
has at its southern part a low capand on
its northern _si e a high mountain, giving
to it the appearance of three islands for a
distance of about 30 miles.
The news of the wreck and the loss Of
all bands was taken to Hongkong by a
vessel from the Saigon river, which emp-
ties at this point, and found its way to
this city in a letter to the relatives of the
first oflicer, Fran-l: H. Stivers. Laro Jor-
gensen, a Swede, was second officer, and
Henry B. Fitzhugh, an Englishman, third
officer. The crew consisted of five Eng—
lishmen and eight Chinese.

SULLIVAN, Ind., July 26.—Mrs. Raines,
wife of the superintendent of city schools,
was burned to death while visiting rela-
tives in the country, Mrs. Raines has
been deranged for some time. A few
weeks ago she attempted suicide by hang-
ing, but was prevented. There is no doubt
but that she deliberately took her own
life. -.
