argument when Jim O’Rourke protests
Jim made a
kick in South Norwalk last Saturday,
and the umpire replied: “I think I’m
doing as well as you did,Mr. O’Rourke.”

Early in January last Stephen J.
O’Brien, who had beenworking for the
Metropolitan Life Insurance company
in this city, received a letter from
Michael Conhlin, of Fall River, Mass,
enquiring what had been done with a
dollar that he had sent him to pay on
the policy of his brother, William Conk-
lip, of Bidgefield. O’Brien had not
received the letter containing the $1
and enquired of John M. French, the
superintendent, as to whetherflit had
been received, but got no answer. A
few days ago Frank Kelly, another
agent of the company, was discharged
by French. Shortly after Kelly’s dis-
charge O’Brien met him on the street
with the $1 in it wasreferred to. where-
upon Kelly informed O’Brien that the
letter had come to the oifice and French
had opened it, although addressed to
O’Brien, and abstracted the 31. To
obtain suflicient proof of the matter
O’Brien got Kelly to go before A. E.
Austin and make oath as to the letter’s
receipt and French’s opening it and
the affidavit, but what steps he pro-
poses to take in the case he will not
state. The matter is a serious one and
may make French considerable trouble
before it is over.
