The public schools will close for the
long summer vacation, on Friday.
The vote for a major of the 4th Regi -
ment will be taken at the armory this
afternoon.
George Ingersoll, of this city, will;
leave town to- night with the Daniel
Boone show, with Bwhich he has accept-
ed a position.
The Y. P. S. C. *E. of the Congrega-
tional church held their regular month-
ly business meeting and a lawn party
last night at Mr. D. E. Disbrow’s on
West avenue.
The grand excursion from Danbury,
Bridgeport and South Norwalk, wh ch
was to have gone out from here to- day,
did not leave, as the Danbury end of
the excursion did not appear.
For some reason or other, possibly
because Jupiter Pluvius was doing too
much sprinkling, the Baptist Sunday
schools of Jersey City did not put in an
appearance at Roton Point Tuesday.
Mrs. Mary A. Roberts,
Dexter W. Mellny, died at her home on
Concord street, Tuesday afternoon
aged 62 years. The remains will be
taken to Woodlawn cemetery, Friday
morning.
The strawberry festival and enter-
tainment given by the Epworth League
of the First M. E. church, on the
grounds of Thomas I. Raymond on
West street, last evening was well at-
tended and a very enjoyable afl'ai1.
At a meeting of the executive com-
mittee of the 17th Regt” held at the
City Hotel last evening, it was voted to
hold the next re- union of the Regt. at
N ewtown Conn. ., August 28th. The
citizens of that town are very enthusi-
astic to entertain the old 17th.
