The Columbian Excursion company, which holds a lease on three World’s fair hotels, has made an assignment in favor of Melville C. Eames. The hotels are the Everett, 200 rooms; the Costello, 232rooms, and the Boston, 200 rooms. The assets of the company will probably exceed the lia- bilities, the latter being figured at $30,000. If the attendance at the fair increases as it has done lately, it is expected the company will come out all right. With the exception of the Brazilian, Ar- gentine Republic and Russian sections in the artistic Agricultural hall every exhibit is in place. The exhibit from any part of the great double gallery is ‘a most ‘attrac—' tive one, and Chief Buchanan was con- gratulated upon the splendid showing. made in his department. The last exhibit to be receiVed in the building came a couple of days ago from the Spanish col- ony of Porto Rico, consisting chiefly of coffee, spices, rice and tobacco. . There is plenty of work for Captain Bon- field’s secret service detectives in the Ad- ministration building. Since the rooms in pavilion C were partitioned oif for newspaperand other offices and occupied at the opening of the fair there have been innumerable thefts in the darkness of night.
