ASBURY PARK, May 20.——Lawyer Isaac
C. Kennedy, of this place, today filed with
the county clerk at Freehold articles of
incorporation of the Monmouth County
Seashore Electric Railway company,which
proposes to build and operate one of the
largest electric railways in this country.
The company will start out with a paid
up capital of $1,500,000 and will at once be-
in work upon a road extending from
Pleasure Bay. near Long Branch, to Point
Pleasant, passing through Long Branch,
\Vcst End. I‘llbei'on, Deal Beach, Loch
Arbor, North As'bury Park, Asbury Park,
Ocean Grove, Key East, Belmar, Spring
Lake, Como and Point Pleasant.
J. C. Shaffer, the president of the Sea-
shore Electric railway, of this place, .and
the owner of several large electric rail-
ways, is at the head of the new company
and has associated with him six promi<
nent railroad men, whose names are with-
held by Mr. Kennedy until the papers are “
placed on file.
The new company has already leased the
Byrnes building at this place as its head'-
quarters, and will, in all probability, pur-
chase and make it a central station. Three
operating stations are to be created along
the proposed route beside those at this
place, which the new company will pur-
chase. The overhead trolley system will
be used. ~
Prisoners Sentenced at BridgetOn.
BRIDGETON, N. J ., May 20,—Judge Hoag-
land sentenced the' following persons: El~
ton Pitts, atrocious assault on Gallo, the
Vineland Italian, state prison for two
years at hard labor; Aubrey Thompson,
colored, petty larceny, state prison for one
year; W’illiani Edgecomb, assaulting an
officer, eighteen months at hard labor in
state prison; Thomas Bodine‘, Jr., break-
{rlig and entering, one yearin state prison;
arry Whitaker, breaking, entering and
Btealingpne year in state prison; Elizabeth
Monigan, Rebecca Turner and Annie Gar-
rison, for keeping disorderly houses, were
each fined $50 and costs, and to stand com-
mitted until fine and costs are paid; Riley
Allen was given ninety days in jail for as-
sault, and John Higgins and Zaccheus
Ray were sentenced to the county jail for
'six months for breaking and entering.
Railroad Officials Restrained.
BELAIR, Md., May 20.——Judge Watters
has issued a peremptory injunction to the
officials and employes of the Baltimore
and Lehigh railroad restraining them from
interfering with
Bosley in the operation of the road in
Maryland. The road has two receivers
and tyyo operating oflicials. The receipts
for the Maryland portion of the line will
be turned over to Mr. Bosley and for the
Pennsylvania portion to Mr. Taylor. The
injunction of Judge lVatters also directed
Mr. Taylor as trustee to deliver to Mr.
Bosley the books, accounts and assets of
the company now in his hands. Mr. Tay—
lor says that he will contest this order.

WASHINGTON, May 20.—The chief of the
bureau of statistics in his monthly state-
ment to the secretary of the treasury re-
ports that the total values of the exports
of merchandise from the United States

state Democratic committee it was de-
cided to hold the next gubernatorial con.
Vention at Richmond, Thursday, Aug. 17.
The basis of representation was decided at
one delegate for every 100 votes or fraction
over fifty as cast in the last presidential
Election. This will make a body of some
L640 delegates. The officers to be nomi-
[iated by the convention are governor,
ieutenant governor and attorney general.
Immigration Statistics.
WASHINGTON, May 20,—The chief of the
hureau of statistics reports that during .
nmonths ended April 30 334,825 immi-
krants arrived at the ports of the United
States. Of this number 72,168 came from
Germany, 23,116 from Russia (except Po-
land), 44,589 from Italy, 35,196 from Swe-
E7311 and Norway, 37,021 from England and
ales, and 32,095 from Ireland. The num-
ber arrived during the corresponding
period of the preceeding year was 334,825.

Immigration Law Working Admirably.
. WASHINGTON, May 20.~Senator Faulk-
ner, amember of the committee investi-
gating immigration, was at the treasury
department, and says that he is satisfied
that the newimmigration law is working
admirably; that the steamship companies

ment, and that there will be no further
need for legislation for some time—none

now apparent is developed.
