church yesterday. He preached two

there is every indication that many
new buildings are to be erected, espec-
ially dwelling houses.
Christian Beusen was finedSl and

rett this morning. He 'had not Spent
all his good money and therefore paid
the bill, vowing never to drink again.

in regards to who is likely to be the
new post master in this cit}. While
many of our worn out politicians are
named, the new one Just spoken of.
James H. Flynn, stands a good chance
for capturing the prize.
Mr. XVéndell G. Ashton, who, it was
reported, was to have entered a co-
partnership with Oliver E. Barker has
decided to remain inhis old pomtion as
clerk for Jacob M. Layton, and he is
now attending to‘ his duties in the of- ‘
fice of that gentleman. ‘
Gustav Peterson was arrested for as—
sault and breach of the peace. He put
up a cash bond of $10 for his appear-
ance thismorning. He did not appear
and Justice Barrett continued his case
until this afternoon at five o’clock. If
Peterson fails to appear then, his bond
will be forfeited.

propriating $200 for a memorial tablet
at Gettysburg in honor of the Four-

They Threaten Exposure.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn, March 23.—
Prominent Minneapolis lumbermen,
whose names will soon be published, say
that one otthe leading members of the
Legislature approached them with the
offer that he would steer the \Vymau bill
through-the Legislature for the sum of
$1,000. An investigation- will be called for
from the Legislature. In case this is not
promptly forthcoming the lumbermcn
will promptly publish the whole affair.
A New Jersey Boycott.
JERSEY CITY, March 20,—A meeting
was held at Taylor’s Hotel, Jersey City,
last night, to arrange for a mass meeting
to indorse Gladstonc’s Home Rule bill.
Ex-_Mayor Orestes Cleveland presided.

pulpit yesterday that Harry’Wilson, the
bass singer of the church choir, had not

church organist, Mrs. C. H. Li'hou, nor
had he Won her heart by assiduously 68-,
corting her home after rehearsals.
