“Michael Diiley of New Milford, has in
cornfield asmall patch of own: com.
A woods borders on it on one side. As
soon as the grains began to nicely form
on the ears, the corn began to disappear.
Michael bore the theiving for a couple of
nights and then concluded he would
watch and catch the miscreants. Ac-
cordineg he took his dog with him cud
secluded himself beneath the fence in
sight of the corn patch. For a long
time it was as silent as death about him.
Finally he heard a peculiar- cry, imimb
tug very closely that of an infant. He
kept shady, and soon was awarded by
seeing fou coons coming toward him
on the fence. ”When they got within
ten rods of him they entered the corn
patch and began to help themselves.
They did not eat the'cornon the spot,
but he declares that each one selected
