A prominent “'nshington photogra-
pher recently got all the members of the
Supreme Court together in his place and
secured a negative of them in a group.
The proof met the approval of all the
justices except one, who objected to his
picture because, he confided to the artist,
it made him look too short. The pho-
tographer refused to destroy the nega~
tive, however, unless the justice would
bring all the: members of the court to-
gether for another sitting. This he suc-

vided the short member with'a box to
stand on. His associates discovered the

troublous times for the personnel of vari-

resigning; the Bulgarian Cabinet fol-

over the sub~prefecture question, and the
Italian Cabinet resigned because Parlia- '
merit did not manifest that confidence in

British Parliament has been dissolved

campaign, while it is probable that be-
fore long another appeal to the people of
Great Britain will be made. Congress

Another romance originating in the
Custer massacre is identified with the
gold watch worn by Lieutenant Critten—
den, who also perished by the vengeful

chased in England some time before. It
became the booty of a Sioux warrior,
who, in due season, after crossing the
line sold it to a Canadian rancher or

Thomas Kelly. who has just died at
St. Louis at the age of ninety-nine, had
a remarkable career. He was a native of
Limerick, Ireland, and was apprenticed
as a sailor at the age of ten. Three years
later he sailed from Liverpool for Que-

Cruyd. Bad wvathcr kept the vessel
eight months at sea. Provisions were
exhausted, and the crew finally drew
lots to decide whit h among them should

others. Kelly twice narrowly escaped

date, July 27, 1903, Kelley never tasted

France, Spain, Portugal,

war he went to St. Louis. where, at the
