Local Inspectors Jayne and Matthews
gave their decision Monday to Supervis-
ing Inspector Kirby touching the collision
between the steamboats Adelaide and
Grand Republic in the North River on
June 19. After reviewing the evidence,
they state in conclusion that, in their opin-
ion, tho “ collision was caused by gross
recklessness on the port of Benedict J.
Fisher, master of the Adelaide, in
attempting to cross the bow of the Grand
Republic." They order Fisher‘s license to
be revoked from date and exempt Capt.
Schenck the pilot of the Grand Republic
from all blame. And we are informed
that the statement made it few days ago
in the ll’orld, reported to have been made
by the captain of the steamship Cytbin,
in regard to the steamer Grand Republic,
Is vcry unjust and injurious to the owners
of the Rock'oy steamers.
