The Fair Wednesday.
The grounds were well patronized all day,
crowds constantlv arriving by rail, in car-
riages and on foot.
The clouds in the morning portendcd rain.
and although the sun came out at times the
general tendency was towards unpleasant-
ncss, and after 12 o'clock rain drops and a
cold wind from the west. spoke dtscourage-
ment to such as dwelt afar oil“, and many
were deterred from putting in an appearance.
Notwithstanding all this a very respectable
assemblage came together, and the usual
hustle and activity, without confusion, was
the order of the morning.
About six hundred entries of all kiuds had
been made up to noon, and the prospects for
an exhibition equal, if not superior, to that
of previous years was the result.
The show of cattle, shccp, poultry, etc.
was the ordcr of the morning, and was pro-
nounced by those conversant with the sub-
ject to be far bctlcr than that of any prc-
vious year,
Morris Ken-hum, of “'cstport, exhibited
blood stock of many varieties, his Durham
bull, three years old, and weighing 2,500
pounds, attracting attention
Stephen Hoyt & Son, of New Canaan,
showed a large herd of fine cattle, cows of
various ages, calves and bulls of thc Devon,
Ayrshire, Aldcrncv and Durham breeds.

Gazette was greatly missed in the pleasant
circle. After the dinner had been satisfac-
torily discussed the Govcrnor visited several
points of interest, and was then convcycd
by Mayor Ely to the half-past four o’clock
train.
Thc day was one of the most completely
successful ones that was ever enjoyed on
our Fair Grounds. The only circumstance
which tended to cast a sad cloud over the
occasion was the absence from his accus-
tomcd place of the honored President, John-
than Camp. Thc weather was all that
could be wished; bright, mellow, and salu-
brious. The programme was carried out
with great promptncss and thoroughness;
and great credit is due to the Marshalls, es-
pccinlly the Society Marshall, E. F. Foster,
for tho faultless execution of the whole plan.

The Fair Thurs-day.
Thc visit of the Governor and staff was
thc ch-nt of chicf intcrt‘st Thursday. and
an immense crowd gathercd to greet him.
Tbc Daubury and Nor-walk railroad ran very
heavy trains, tunicularly in the afternoon;
and the highways leading to the Fair
Grounds were thronged besides with people,
all hurrying to the point of interest.
The Governor, having: ampted the hospi-
talities of our city was brought to the Old
Well Hotel about eleven 0 ‘cluck: where the
'(‘ity Counc ii and a few private citizens con

In a few minutes the 950011, consisting of
