With a fair balance of power 'between the two great political
parties good government can be best obtained in the Nation and
m the State. Connecticut is suffering from one man and one
party power. EXcess of power makes for abuse of power. Excess
of power permits a party to exultingly nominate weak candidates
and make weak appoihtments. What are you going to do about 1t?
John D. Milne, the Republican candidate for State Senator, in accepting his nom-
ination started with an apology, he said (taken from the.Norwalk Hour of Sept. 28,
1926) “When it comes to invested interests, my belief is that said interests should
be left to the say of the owners, and their desires should r eive first considera-
tion.” What did he mean by this statement? What would; e do for the people if
the question of the service charge on gas and electricity’came up?
Where does he stand on the leasing and control of state water power?
. at is his attitude regarding the Municipal Light Plants in the Second and Third
dish'cts of the City of Norwalk? ‘ .
‘As an employee of the company which has been the beneficiary of state water-
pqwer resources, he might not want to vote on such questions. Properly he should
not. Then why elect him? 4’
How do all the local Republican candidates for the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives stand on local questions such as semi-annual payment of taxes? Do
they stand for the elimination of the grade crossing at Cross Street and will they
see that the state and the railroad make that crossingb safe when the street is
widened and; paved? But above all how do they stand on the question of home rule
and the creation of state bureaus?
The local Democratic candidates, Henry J. Klein for Senator and James Council
and FrankgRt Stevens for Representatives, are progressive and have no personal
ends to serve. If elected they can be depended upori to make their decisions in
the interests of the people. . , '
