Woodruff Halsey. president of Rog-
ers Peet Company. who had r:::ived
many honors for his worlr with‘the
general staff of the A. E. 1“. during,
the war, died yesterday at his home.
3 Wellington Circle. Lawrence Park.
Bronxviile. Mr. Halsey had suirered
a nervous breakdown as a result of
the heavy work he did in France.
and his death was attributed to this
and to heart disease. lie left a
month ago‘or a. farm he owned near
Ithaca. but became ill and returned.
His condition was not considered sea
rious until Thursday. ’ I
Mr. Halsey was a son of William
McDowell and Louisa. Marla. Wood-
rlii'f Halsey. He was born in New-
ark. July 7. 1877. After attending
the Halsey Collegiate School, in New
York, he entered Princeton Univers-
ity, from which he was graduated
with honors in 1898.
For it year after his graduation
from Princeton. Mr. lliiiscy worked
in the United States Weather Bu-
reau. He. then became an office
clerk in Rogers Pcct Company, and
he worked his way from that posi-
tion to head of the firm.

GREENWICH. Juno 6.—-An amus-
ing incident occurred on Arch street.
Thursday about 12 o'clock noon.
when a little girl in crossing the
street stepped in some fresh tar
which had been placed on the road.
and was unable to extricate herself.
A chauffeur. seeing the child's pre-
dicament and her danger of being
run down by cars. came to her res-
cue. but she had stuck so fast in the
tar that it was necessary to remove
her low shoes first and then pull the
pair of ties from the tar. which took
about all the strength the husky
