score of trans-Atlantic liners. laden
with immigrants, will be in the lower
harbor tonight. waiting for midnight,

at the first moment the August quota
for immigrants becomes operative.

some of their ships to Boston and
Philadelphia so that their passengeja
may get in under the quotas of those
ports.

ion. it was predicted today. Of the in-
coming vessels nine will dock in
Brooklyn and Holmkcn and the re-
maindcr in Manhattan.
Some of the ships have reported by
radio that they are outside Sandy
Hook and will come into Graveseml
Bay tonight. in order to be within
striking distance of the Quarantine
station. which opens at 6 a. m.
It is estimated that 15,000 aliens
will arrive on the fleet. -

While figures seem to indicate that
no country’s quota. will be exhausted
by the present rush. there is a. post.
billty that the aliens landed at other
ports may make up the difference be-
tween the. number landing in New
Yerk and the maximum. Many of the
quotas for this month were exhausted
by July 10.
The Cunard Line announced today
that the steamer Tyrrhenia. with a
passenger list of 1.296. would be sent
to Boston. The'Whlic Star liner Goth-
innd will go to Philadelphia. and the
American Linc will divert the Finland
to Boston. The latter “0389' brings
191 cabin mwgers and 335 third
class.

now being carried on in Green Coun-
ty. Missouri. A report Just received

Service at \"ashington shows a re-
niarkablo reduction in the infant
mortality rate in Springfield and
Campbell Townships since the estab-
lishment there of a. whole-time coun-
ty health department.
“In 1918 the death rate in these
two Missouri townships was 105 per
thousand. That is. out of every 1.000
babies born alive. 105 died in that
year. Then Green county decided it
could no longer afford to continue
unmlndful of its baby death rate and
n. health department was organized.

ships dropped to 96 per thousand.
In 1920 it went to 85. in 1921 to 76.
and in 192:: the decline reached 61.
in other words Springfield and Camp-
bell townships reduced their infant
