. ’ The Republicans at their city convention adopted a plat—
form pledging the nominees of their party to a policy of efficiency,
economy and a business administration of the city government.
The Democrats at their city convention did not adopt a
platform, and for twa‘weeks afterwards, they sought the suffrage
of the electors without any policy and with no plan or program.
Apparently worried by the crystallizing of public sentiment in
support of the Republican idea, they have printed, in the last week
of the campaign, a sir—called platform authorized by no convention,
tempted to copy almost word for word therarious principles for
which the Republican party stands. Denocratic speakers have
said that efficiency and economy are a fake and a ioko. Repub-
licans regard efficiency and economy as the safeguards of the tax-
payers and voters and the bulwark of municipal government. Yet
the Democrats cynically believing that efficiency and econmy are
a fake. and not believing in those principles have deliberately

platform pledges, and is waging a campaign in behalf of the boot
