MEN HAD NARROW ESCAPE.
BRIDGEPORT. October 6.—~At the
West End freight yard Wednesday
evening there was a collision between
a‘ switcher and a caboose. and three
men had a narrow escape from being
crushed to death. At the time of the
accident the yardmcu Were engaged in
switching. and a part of a freight train
had been sent onto one of thc sldlugs.
At the same time the. switcher. with
the three men standing on the running
board of the tender. was running up
the same track.
The quick Work of the engineer of
the switcher prevented a serious col-
listen, but he was not in time to pre-
vent the switcher and the caboose
coming together with a crash. The
