the inwtntion of the state vice regent.

The meeting was largely a social
function as the blislness was quickly
over. The ladies soon were at liberty
to enjoy themselves upon the broad
porch overlooking the harbor with
Steeplechase island near by and vari
ous set craft passing but a little way
off. The tide crept slowly in and by
the time lunch was ready at one '
o’clock the rippling waves came close
to the steps.
Much interest was manifested by
the ladies in the house which they
knew had been but recently rebuilt
after being nearly destroyed by tire .
last winter. One lady expressed her
sympathy "for the children who came
near being fatally injured" and in'
quiry revealed the fact that many had
heard that a Sunday school was being
treated to a Christmas tree at the
time and that the tire took from the
candles upon it and the children I
barely escaped with their lives. Alv ‘
though there was a dinner party in i
progress there were no children or a
tree. The hostess received many con-
gratulations upon her return to her
own home where her friends who are
legion are always cordially welcomed.
An elaborate lunch was dalntily ser-
veil by Miss louise Warren assisted by
the following wall-known young lad
ics: Miss Beardsley. Miss Downs,
Misses Drew, Mrs. Gorham and Mrs. '
Powe.
