No city or village has yet been able to bar its doors and ‘force back this King of Terrors. _ Consumption is a form of Scrofula, and is a disease which spares neither age nor sex, and whose attacks, at first so insid- ious as almost to escape notice, too frequently lead to a fatal issue. The first symptoms are usually, ashort, dry cough, exciting no particular attention, being attri- buted to a slight cold. It however, continues, and after a time in- creases in frequency—the breath- ing is more .hurried by bodily motion, and the pulse becomes more frequent, the patient is languid, has night sweats, with fever turns and chills, and gra- dual wasting away and losing strength, and the cough is par- ticularly troublesome during the night. As the disease advances, the face becomes flushed, the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet are affected with a burning heat, and, the ankles begin to swell; the cheeks are prominent, the eyes hollow and languid, and the patient flatters himself with the hope of a speedy recovery, until death puts a pe- riod to his existence. I therefore warn all persons, do not delay until 2'! is too late. Dr. Fiske’s Lung Syrup is the only known medicine that can re- move Tubercles from the Lungs. It is a most valuable remedy, and if the Lungs are not too far gone, it is sure to effect a perma- nent cure. The irritation from this latter cause commences in the larynx and glottis, which are the organs of the voice, extend- ing downwards, producing sore throat, hoarseness, coughing, and spitting of mucus matter, some- ulcers of the Lungs, thereby, times mixed with blood; it is chiefly dangerous from its tenden- cy to spread into the Lungs, and terminate in Consumption. This is an inflamation of a pc- culiar character, being caused by acid or poisnous matter in the blood, and having for its seat the fibrous tissue, or that thready texture which enters largely into the composition of the cords and muscles of the human body. The symptoms are pain, lame-' ness, stiffness, &c., in the back, joints and other parts.
