A Consume.
As Annie was carrying the baby one day,
Tossing aloft the lump of inanity,
bear to its father and mother no doubt-—
To the rest of the world a mere lump of humanity,
Sam came along, and was thinking then, maybe,
Full as mug of Annie as she of the baby,
“ Just look at the baby," cried Ann, in a flutter,
Giving its locks round her finger a twirl;
“ If I was a man I know that I couldn’t
Be keeping my hands off a dear little girl,"
And Sam gave a wink as if to say “ maybe .
Of the girls I'd rather hug-you than the baby."
Now kissit," she cried, still hugging it closer,
"Its month’s like the roées the honey bee lips!"—
Sam stooped to obey, and. as heads came together.
There chanced to arise a confusion otlips!
And as it occurred, -it might have been, maybe,
That each got a kiss, Sam, Ann and the baby.

What hallowed memo-'es and tender rec-
ollections are associated with this one word
“ Home." Its mention calls up the .dearest
picture and brightest spots in our earthly
pilgrimage. Nothing but the “ Home on
the other side” can be compared to the joys
and holy delight of a happy home".
Here, gathered around the family altar,
each morning, the beloved father, whose ev-
ery thought is for the future welfare and
good of his little household, invokes the
blessing of the Heavenly Father. in words
of tenderest supplication, as he kneels, with
humble trust in Divine protection, and the
soft and feeling amen, of the dear mother,
tells her afi‘ectionate love and tender solici-
tudc for these of God’s giving—her loving
children, and the father goes out to his dai-
ly toil with the kiss of the fond wife and lit-
tle ones fresh upon his lips, with strength to
labor and a'joyous heart which love alone
can give. And at evening, when all are at
home, With the little ones upon his knee, he
tells them stories that detht their childish
fancy, tells them of the infant Jeans, in the.
manger at Bethlehem, of his love and obc-'
dieucc to his parents, how he loved little
children, took them in his arms and blessed
them, lived a holy life, and died upon the
Cross that his children on earth might be
redeemed, and after death dwell with him in
the “ Home beyond the Skies." .
And-Ibo sons and daughters who have
gone to manhood and womanhood, go out
into the world, one by one, to buffet its
waves, with the blessing of the parents upon
their head, and fight the battle of life with
Christian courage and strength, and as years
roll by, at each return of the annual Thanks-
giving they gather around the family hearth-
stonc and recount the joys and sorrows, the
successes and disappointments, the trials and
victories they have endured, bringing with
them rcmcmbrnnces of filial love and affec-
tion, and speak loving words of comfortand
cheer, which smooth and brighten the path-
way of their declining years. May God
guide and sustain us all through life’s jour-
' ney, and at last receive us in the Home be;

Democrats drive the 850,000 colored voters
over to the Republican party_“it will have
a serious effect upon Democratic ascendan-
c , in several States." We should say so.

' the colored vote over to the Republicans,
we fail to See how the Democrats can do it
any more effectually than they have al-
ready.
Aflcr rejecting the FifteenthAmendment,
as our rulers at Albany have done, how can
they ask colored men to come to their res-
cue. How can the Democrats of New Jer-
sey or Ohio ask the colored voters to throw
their influence in their favor ? Have they
not already done all in their power to pre-
vent them from voting ? Nothing is more
evident to the colored men of the North
and South than that they owe their politi-
cal enfranchisemeut to the Republican par-
ty. We expect, however, that the Demo—
cratic leaders will soon cease their opposi-
tion to the Fifteenth Amendment, since it is
"'already a fact accomplished, and ‘com-
mencc pipelaying to secure the colored
vote. Already the World says it is sorry
“Abolition halls and colored orphan hous-
es” were ever burnt in this city. A tardy
repentance, but better late than never.

ANOTHER MOON FOR THE EARTH.—-Tlie
Mining Press says a German scientist has
recently‘ created a considerable sensation
by the publication of a pamphlet,‘in which
he takes the ground that the zodiacal light
proceeds from a gaseous ring surrounding
the earth at a distance of only a few thou-
sand miles from its surface. This, gas he
thinks is in a quiet state of combustion, but
is fast cooling off, and, in consequence, will
soon burst and aggregate into globular
mass and form a second moon for the earth.

the highway known as Van Zandt Avenue, then
westerly along said. Van Zanut Avenue; then
sonther along the highway to the highway leading

westerly along said last mentioned highway and

Washington Street to the highway known as Main
