The Fair has been so successful the last two
years, in Norwalk, that the other towns want
to share the honors. Bridgeport will make
as strong an effort as the citizens of that
place are capable of making, and the Stand-
ard says “it will be a disgrace to us, if we
fail to offer such inducements as will cause
the Fair to be held here next Fall.” The

publican friends throughout the State, the
name of WILLIAM C. STREET of Norwalk,
for the next Treasurer of Connecticut. He
combines all the qualiﬁcations we have men-
tioned. He is well known throughout the
State as an upright, useful. and able member
of the House Of Representatives during two
years of the recent war, and in ﬁnancial abil-
ity he has no superior in the State. Mn-
STnunT will be more, astonished ’ than any-
bodv 31;. wresd'his name in this connec-
on, for we write entirely without his knowl-
edge, and because we believe that by so do-
ing, we may subserve the best interests of
.the State. He is moreover, of that sterling
old Democratic stock which withdrew from

and he has been most efﬁcient in support of
the Government in procuring the enlistment
of troops, &c. throughout the war. We com-
mend the subject to the consideration of our

through some of the principal streets to Ely’s
Hall, where Mr. Foster by direction of the
citizens had laid out a sumptuous dinner for
