of the OXYGENATED KITTENS some seven or eight years
since. Having suffered for twenty years from a form of
DYSPEPSIA, which was attended witha nervous headache
on an average of not less than one day in a week, I was
induced by the unpretending recommendation of Dr.
Green “ to try one bottle and if no benefit was recived
to discontinue the use.”
The use of one bottle warranted a further trial, to the
extent of some thyec or four, with a careful observance
ol‘the accompanying directions. The result was an al-
most entire ielief from the usual dyspeptic symptoms
and their depressing, painful! consequences. [believe
these hitters produced an entire change in the habits of
my system and upon the active energies of the digestive
organs. I now deem myself as exempt from Dyspepsia.
as most persons. These hitters have also been of serv-
ice to other members of my family.

Chemistry, as applied to the Arts, of the Royal Con-
servatorio of Madrid, and of physique and Chemistry,
as applied to the Industry and Agriculture of the
country, in the Roynl University of this Island, at
present H. M,’s Director of the Institute of Chemical

Do hereby certify,at the request of the house of (lot-
tig 8': Will, of this place, I have nide an aniiliticul ex -
amination of U. Wolfe’s Aromatic Schiedum Schnapps,
with the object of ascertaining ifit contained any sub-
stance noxions to health, and to inform them as to its
true composition and relative quality with the other
gins that are offered in the market, and the results of
my observations are as fo.ows :—
Udolpho Wolfe’s aromatic Sclililam schnapps is a.
spirituous liquid, of u. very agreeable aromatic odor,
completely transparent and almost colorless, having
only a. very slight tint of yellowish gray; its flavor
is strong and very agreeable to the palate. It. marks
20 degrees in Caticr's alcohol weiglier or 52 degrees 5
hundredth in Gay Lussac‘s alcohometre. By the dis-
tillation in n balmum maria, with an apparatus consist-.
ofa glas‘s retort and a recipient surrounded with ice, I
have collected in this recipient an alcoholic liquid with
a. very agreeable aroma completely colorless and trans-
parent, which murked 90 degrees in Cartier‘s alcoholic
weighcr, or 70 degrees 5 hundredth on Gay Lnssac’s al-
cometrn ; and which represented as a whole 57 per
cent. of aromatic Schiedam scliapps subject to distilla
tion in the retort. This liquid did not soil the tran
parency of the distilled water in mixing it with the same
and its agreeable aroma is doubtless due to a very tri-
fling amount of an essential] oil inseparable from al—
cohol. ‘
From the remainder of the distillation which was left
in the retort I have Obtained, through evaporation in a.
vapor bath, a substance of a yellowish brown color,
clear, and having a bitter taste which is not disagreea-
ble, and which afterwards becomes aromatic and leaves
the mouth perfumed with that fragrance peculiar to the
vanilla. I am inclined to believe that to this hitterand
aromatic extractive substance, soluble in water and al-
cohol, the medicinal properties which are attributed to
this gin are due. I have not found in Udolplio Wolfe’s
aromatic Schledam schnapps any mineral or organic
substance Olier than the extractive one already named
and the aromatic one obtained by distillation. Finally,
Udolpllo Wolfe‘s aromatic Schiedam schnapps consists
simply ofnn aromatic alcohol of 20 degrees of gradua-
tion in Cnrtier’s alcoholic weighcr, and of an extractive
bitter aromatic substance, which perhaps, is medicinal;
and on account of is not containing any matter injuri-
'ons to the health, as well as for its odor and good flavor
—-a fact which no doubt arises from the choice sub.
stances employed in its manufacture, and from the pc-
culiar manner of its distillation, it should in my opinion
be preferred to all the Holland, Belgic and German gins
which are found in this Island which it linshecii my
business to examine. These gins as I have often pro-
ved, it exhale a disagreeable od0i, and have a more or
less disagreeable. flavor, some of them liai‘ingleft as was
the case with the superior gill from the distillery of Mr.
Henry Deetjen (of Bremen), as residum after evapora-
tion by steam, a subtnnce almost incipid and very Il‘l-
flmgly aromatic, with flavor of vanila, but in no wise
with the delicious bitter and aromatic flavor of that of
Udolpho Wolfe ;and others, such as thatlabelled “Gen.
ulno Samaritan,” “ Extra superior.” Messrs Tracher
have furnished me a very small quantity of a greenish
substance, of harsh metalic taste and very disagreeable
which extractive organic matter was mixed with a salt
of copper, with signs of iron,owing perhaps, to a bad
system of distillation.
I certify that all that is here stated is the truth and
agrees with the experiments I have made with the
greatest cure and I authorize the house of Gottig kWill
of this city, to give publicity to this certificate in Span-
ish and in foreign languages, in all countries where it
may suit their interest to do so.
