Dear sir : Unsolicited, I send you this certificate.
After being nearly hold for a. long tiuie, and having
tried all the hair restoratives extant, and having no
faith in any, I was induced, on hearing of yours to give
It a. trial. I placed myself in the hands oi a barber, and
had my head rubbed with a good stiff brush, and the
Restorative then applied and then rubbed in, till the
scalp was all aglow. This I repeated every morning,
and in three weeks the young hair appeared and grew
rapidly from August last till the present time, and is
now thick, black and strong—soft and pleasant to the
touch ; whereas, before, it was harsh and wiry, what
little there was of it. and that little was disappearing
very rapidly. I still use your restorative about twice
a week and shall soon have .1 good and perfect crop of
hair. Now, I had read of these things—and who has
not? but have not seen hitherto any case where any
person’s hair was really benefitted by any of the hair
tonic, &c., of the day : and it really gives me pleasure
to record the result of my experience. I have recom-
mended your preparation to others, and it already has
a large and general sale throughout the territory. The
people here know its effects, and have confidence in it.
The supply you sent us, as wholesale agents of the ter-
ritory, is nearly exhausted, and daily inquiries are
made for it. You deserve credit for your discovery ;
and I, for one, return you my thanks for the benefit it
has done me, for I certainly had despaired long ago of
ever effecting any such result. Yours hastily,

Rum which is a recent iuveutioii of the poten-
tce, is capable of forcing water to A). greater
elevation than any other Ram, with the same
head and supply of water, and warranted not
to stop working at any time, if thero is a suffi-
cient supply of water, and no leak or air traps
in the drive pipe.
In the ordinary ram. the valve rests upon the
aperature it is designed to close, presenting a.
much larger. upper surface for the pressure in
the air chamber than in the area. on the lower
surface, on which the water acts in opening it;
consequently, the pressure per square inch re-
quired to lift the valve is as much greater in
proportion as the area. of the upper surface is
greater than the area of the apcrature-—hence
the great loss of power.
The principal iiiiprovenieut in thisover oth-
er water rams, consists in the upper {ind lower
surfaces of the valve opening—into the air
chambers—-being of the same area, the pres-
sure per square inch required to open it is but
slightly greater than that in the air chamber ;
consequently, there is no loss of power in its
act.ion—heuce itsability to throw more water
than other rams which, having valve seats, are
liable to catch and retain sand or gravel, and
thereby to leak and get out of order. Other

ing it while in operation. -

S11: : In reply to your note, Iwould say that
you placed one of your No. 3 hydraulic rams
upon my promises, about eighteen months ago,
near a reservoir of water which is supplied by
an unfailing spring. This reservoir is nearly
three hundred yards from my dwelling, and
with a fall of eight feet. you elevated the wa-
ter seventy-eight feet, to a tank in the upper
story, from whence it is distributed by pipes
in various directions. The rain delivers in the
tank about f,600 gallons daily; and by this
means a fountain seventeen feet in diameter
a.nd three feet deep is kept constantly full of
running water, and a jet is furnished which
can throw it more than twenty feet into the
air. The surplus not used. about 1.200 gallons
each day, serves to water the terraces. plants
and flowers. This instrument works constant-
ly, winter and summer, without freezing. and
without cessation, with no muscle to grow
wear-y, no nerve to relax, no breast to feel
faintness. Its value to me can hardly be esti-
mated, as it furnishes us with an uustinted
supply of the purest water, which we lavishly
use without the least regard to economy in its
employment. If my opinion can be of any
service‘ to the public, you may express it in
any form you please.
