books which has taken place‘ in this t.own_. has
been the cause of considerable e_xcit'enrent on
the part of both parents and teachers. Having
read in your last paper an article purporting to
be from one of the school visitors, and partly in
defence of the course which they have’ taken;
1 would call your att.ention once more to the

not expect to introduce his reading books, for
he had understood that the parents and teach-
-ers were perfectly satisfied with Saunders’
series.
He says there were not a quorum of the vis-
itors present when Saunders’ series were intro-
-duced; I venture to say there was less opposi-
ttlon than there has been to the present change.
He adds that as soon as Mr. Saunders was
.inl'ormed of the action of the board of visitors,
he came up to Norxvalk and used means to raise
;a storm among the teachers. This, 1 declare
to be a direct. failselrood; the storm (which our
.visitor wasplenscd to teri:': it,) had courmenzcd
lbelore Mr. Sannder’s knew anytlrintr about it,
or had any thought. of coming to Norwalk ; and
instead ofcr'eatiirg :1 storm, did all in his power
to quiet the storm already raised. He called
on all the teachers and found out. from them
that there had been no Fault found with airy of
the books. He was a little si.rrprised—herrce
that r'ernonst.rance in yotrr last was very prop-
erly signed Schools; it was the voice of the
schools.
Iwould like to know which is the best capable
of judging of the merits of a school book—one
who is using it day after day. or one who has
nothing to do with it. This change in our books
-was made for no good purpose.
Our worthy visitor, to see how far he could
mislead the public, has stated that it will be no
-expense. This is false. To convince the pi l)-
lic. let: me give one instance out of rirauy that
will happen: A has two sons—-one has read and
finished the first three books of Sauridcr’s, and
is reading the l'ourth——llre _yotrirj_;er' brother is
reading in the lirst book; by the rules of the
agent, no sclrolar;cau exchange but one lrooli

taken the second and third book at no expense,
he now will have to buy new ones.
