and affording a beautiful site fora village, and we
trust it will not long be ire-glcctcd. The time
may not be far distant when its value will be op-
preciated. Let us see-

place, we notice that of the residence of \Vd.
Vincent, which has been eatircly rebuilt and
painted, and from its being so located as to ap-
pear at the‘ end of the road running south. It
now affords quite an ornament to the vicinity_

A gentleman in the \Voodbury Satinet trade in-
forms as that that community are not a little
perplexed, and amused withal, to see certain 10-:
co foco owners of Satinet mills in that place who l
have hitherto affected to ridicule the anticipated
effects of the new tariff, closirrg their mills, and
yielding to the stress of circumstances. Two
mills of this character, have recently suspended,
operations, having been forced to add their tes-
timony——unwilling and grinding as it no doubt is
——to thedisastreus effects of a tariff that discrim-
inates in favor of British labor. Poor follows, if
they are entitled to sympa thy, their obstinate sup-
port of the policy which prostrates thcm,our in-
formant says, leads the community to laugh, ra-
thor than cry at their business troubles.
Mr. P. D. Crosby, keeper of a public house
in Danbury, was last week, complained of for
a violation of the statute, in selling liquor to a
common drunkatd. He was fined, but took an
appeal.

counties to hear from gave Bartley about 4'20
