TAMPA, Fla, June 12.—Letters received
from Key West say that n schooner left
there with the main part of the proposed
Cuban expedition Wednesday night. A
tug followed Thursday noon with Chief
Bolofi Sanchez, L. Castillo, Rosendo Gar-
cia. Dr. Dominguez. and others. It is al-
luged that four small and two larger can-
non, with eight Americans to operate
them if needed, have boon shipped, and
also many dynamite hand bombs, with
large quantities of arms and ammunition.
The expedition, it is asserted, had among
its members four regular United States
soldiers from the garrison at Key West.
The total number of men in the expedi-
tion was 500. ~

HAVANA, Juno 12-.—The battalion of
Oadlz has had a brush with the insur~
gents at Guanilbscca. province Of Puerto
Principi. Two soldiers were wounded.
The voluntqts of Yateras and the light
horse of Palms Soriano and Guantanamo
have dispersed insurgent bands at Bella.
Vista and at Caridad. They occupied the
insurgents’ positions and camps. The in
surgents left two dead and three wounded.
The volunteers had one man wounded.
Jose Maceo's Band Hispersed.
MADRID, June 12.—The government has
received advices from Cuba that Colonel
Canellns has dispersed Jose Macao‘s band
of insurgents at Seboruco.

Bridge He Decldad to Live.
BROOKLYN, J une 13.—Another man has
jumped from the Brooklyn bridge. This
jumper differed from others who have gone
over the side of the bridge into the East
river inasmuch as he was not jumping
for fame, but simply to end his life. After
striking the water he floated on his back
until he was picked up bya ferryboat. He
had changed his mind when he found
himself down in the depths of the river.

swam. The man was David Cohen, 23
years old, of 115 Ludlow street, a. Hun-
garian. At 10:15 o’clock Police an Dur-
yee, stationed at the New York ower of
the bridge. saw a man running along the
southern roadway toward the. middle of
the bridge. Divining his purpose. Duryee
called to him to stop. He was apparently
a well dressed young fellow, clad in a gray
tweed suit and brown Fedora hat. The
man said nothing, but ran harder. Dur-
* yee started to climb over the roadway.
Policeman Ganley, who was on the road-
way, tried to head him off. The man
turned and quickly climbed through the
lattice and let himself drOp. An instant
later he struck the water below. He came
up in a few minutes, rolled over on his
back and commenced to paddle. The tide
carried him under the bridge.
The ferryboat Wyoming was just leav-
ing the slip at the foot of Roosevelt street
when the fellow floated toward it. The
boat stopped. A moment later he reached
the boat. and the deckhands held a boat-
hook toward him, which be grasped. They
slid a ladder down to him, and be grasped
it and was dragged on board. He was per-
fectly censolous. He was transferred'to a
tugboat and landed at Catherine slip,
where he was arrested. He was seen there
and asked why he had jumped the bridge.
“I wanted to kill myself, ” he said, "as
I had no work and could not make a liv-
lug.”
Cohen is the nineteenth man to jump—-
or to say be has jumped—from the bridge
since May 19, 1885, when Robert E. Od-
lum was killed in taking the big leap. Of
these Steve Brodie has made the most cap-
ital from his alleged feat.
'1'. J. Tremaine, or Toronto Red, jumped
successfully May 16 last. He had a full
apparatus for jumping and is said to have
won a wager of 8700.
