A Man With a Ticket to South Norwaik Found Drowned in the Passaio Riven Supposed to be a Victim of Green Goods. A singular discovery was made yes- terday morning. William and Charles Snyder, two boys, noticed the body of a man floating in the Passaic river at Passaic, N. J. They got a boat and brought the body to the shore and Undertaker Gormley took the body to the Passaic morgue. It was the form of a man in the prime of life, from 50 to 55 years of age, and weighing about 175 pounds. He has either a. high forehead or else is bald in front. He has a large head and very full, smooth-face which had been shaven the day he died. He was scrupulously clean and neatly and fashionably at- tired. All his outer garments, trousers, vest, coat and overcoat, Were of fine, black diagonal cloth or cassimere, his shirt and collar had not been worn more than a day and were clean, as were his under garments, which were- white. His stockings were of good quality and his high laced shoes were hand-sewed and nearly new and laced neatly to the ankle. There is a strange mystery connected with his death. The appearance of the man would seem to show that he was a well-to-do person of remarkable clean- liness and in good circumstances, as even his suspenders were of the newest and finest quality. He was in full flesh and ruddy in complexion and his skin and face especially look as pink as if in health. And yet no money, (it valu- able, was found on his person. He had on his person a railroad ticket from Stamford to South Norwnlk—noihing else. -His coat had been buttoned up close to his neck and even the tops of the lappels were pinned close to his throat, and his light overcoat was also button- ed in a similar manner, and so thor- oughly was be protected from the cold, that his time of death may have sug- gested the idea that he had been in the river some weeks, possibly since last 2 winter. But this is unlikely as his shirt bosom and undergarments would have been more discolored. There was a coating of tar 'or smudge on the upper part of his head and face but where the coat and collar protected his neck. the skin was clean and natural in color. I I .' Medical Examiner Burke was summoned and pronounced the cause of death paralysis of the heart. He also stated that she must have been dead at leastiweive hours before dis— covered. Mrs. Herring’s sister, Mrs. E. Barthel, who lives in New York, was summoned by telegraph and reached this city this morning. She will make arrangements with undertaker D. W. Raymond for the funeral.
