CHICAGO, April I1.—--The Columbian lib- erty bell was rung today in honor of Rev. Samuel Francis Smith, author of “Amer- ica. ” Mayor Hopkins and Superintendent Lane of the public schools were in charge of the ceremony. - The ringing was done by a committee of school children, repre- senting each state and territory. Immedi- ately after the ringing all united in sing- ing “America. " ‘ A Children’s Home Burned. HALIFAX, April 4.—-Miss Sterling’s Children’s home at Millfoot Farm, Ayles- ford, was burned today. The main build- ing was totally destroyed with its contents. The children and other inmates escaped uninjured. The loss is several thousand dollars. WASHINGTON, April 4.—-Commissioner Lochren has sent aletter to the secretary of the interior detailing the crowded condi- tion of the pension agency at Bufl‘alo.
