S. H. Clifiord, New Cassel, Wis., was

Charley Hong Secures Ball and Is
Released.
The Medical Examinatlon Contra-
dlcts the Girl’s Story.
The case of Charley Hong, charged
with criminally assaulting ten year old
Bertha" Kline, came up before Justice
Keeler yesterdayafternoon at 5 o’clock,
Attorney Joseph Taylor appearing for
Hong. An adjournment of the case
until Monday afternoon next was taken
and Lee Yor, of New York, qualified
as::Hong’s bondsman in the sum of

Hong emphatically denies the girl’s
statement and insists that he never saw
her before he was taken into her pres-
ence in Attorney Honnecker’s office.
From all that can be learned of the
young girl she is not to be believed
under any circumstances.
It is learned. that on last Saturday
Mrs. Kline visited Justice George D.
Keeler’s for the purpose of having
Bertha sent to the Industrial school
and that during: her second visit to
Keeler the girl’s story was repeated to
him and he said that he would have the
Chinaman arrested, which he did. Mrs.
Kline stated to a GAZETTE represents.

her knowledge of the premises. Bertha
herself stated that all the Chinaman
ever did was to take her on his lap and
hug and kiss her.
The statement of Mrs. Kline throws a
new light on the afi'air and places Jus- .
tice George D. Keeler in the position
of having caused Hong’s arrest and
then sitting as the Judge in the case to
obtain a paltry fee.
It is quite evident that when the
case come to trial Justice Keeler will
not attend the hearing in an olficial
capacity.
