Temperance Worker’s Banquet.

The fiftieth anniversary and golden
jubilee of Harmony division, Sons of
Temperance of New Haven, was cele-
brated Wednesday. About 300 mem~
bers of the division and members of
the Grand division with the visiting of-
ficers of the National division partook
of a banquet last evening in Warner

G. B. Bill, chairman of the commit-
tee in charge, and Charles A. Baldwin,
Past Grand Worthy Patriarch, was
toast master. Mr. Baldwin made one
of his happy speeches and introduced
the speaker, A. Wilson as historian of
the‘division. In the course of his ad-
dress Mr. Wilson said the grand divi-
. sion of Connecticut was organized in
1842, and Harmony division was organ-
ized in May, 1844, and had been in con-
tinuous being ever since. Several
Norwalk temperance workers were pres-
ent. A

A Sad Ending.

Hon. Alfred B. Wood. who recently
committed suicide at Saginathich"
by hanging himself, was born in Nor-
walk-April 18th, 1819, and has relatives
yet living here. When about 14 years
of age he went to New York where he
found employment as clerk in 8. Jewel-
ry store. At 16 years of age he removed
to Lyons, N. Y., where he-subsequent-
1y engaged in the book business.
1851 he went to Michigan, and located
at Ann Arbor, in the same business.
He went to Saginawin 1863 and resid-
ed there up to, the time of'his death.
He was elected to the state senate in.
1869; was re-elected in 1871, and at one
time was president pro 'tem of ' that
body. He was also for some years

_ deputy city treasurer and alderman.

He carried on the drug business for
some years. Busmess reverses led up
to the Suicide. .
