BEIZZARD VICTIMS IN KANSAS.

Pathetic Reports of Death and Entering on
the .l’ralrlel.

WICHITA,Kan.Feb.,15.——The blizzard' in
this state caused several deaths, but tele-
graphic facilities are so impeded that it will
be several days before .1. complete report
can be had. Rescuing parties are out in
all parts of the state.

In the northeastern part of Clark coun-

ty 8 rescuing party found a wagon on the
prairie with the dead body of amen named
Lane in it. The horses had dropped in
their tracks and were dead. Lane had been
in Ashland early the previous morning
after coal and food and had succumbed on
his way home. Hurrying on to Lane‘s farm,
the searchers discovered the family, con-
sisting of a mother and six children, in a
deplorable condition. Two of the babies
Were dead, and the others were all sense-
less with cold.

In Mead, the adjoining county, the sick
wife of a man named Wells, who was tak-
ing her to Mead. Center for medical aid,
died from exposure.

NEVV ENGLAND RAILl-VAY PLAN.

Reorganization Scheme as It Is Formulat-
ed In Boston. ‘

BOSTON, Feb. l5.—It is stated here on
good authority that the plan of reorgani-
zation of the New Y. rk and New England,
the existence of W was made known
by a dispatch from w York last night,
has been fully formulated.

It provides that the 7 per cent mortgage
bondholders shall take 15 per cent of their
holdings in new mortgage bonds at par;
that holders of 6 per cent. mortgage bonds
shall take 10 per cent of their holdings at
par, and that an assessment of 10 per cent
on the common stock and 25 per cent on
the preferred stock be laid.

It is stated that the old regime is left en-
tirely out of consideration and that it has
nothing Whatever to do with the present
movement.

McElnlcy’s Old District \Vants Elm.
MASSILLON, 0., Feb. 15.-—It is probable,
in the absence of a peremptory refusal to

allow his name to be considered, that the

friends of Governor McKinley, in this, his
old district, will present his name at the
convention which will nominate a. succes-
sor to Representative Ikirt. Two years ago
he refused to have his name used on the
the ground that he had a contract with
the state of Ohio to serve out his term.

Mississippi Towns Blown 'Away.

JACKSON, Miss., Feb. 15.—'l.‘he cyclone
passed through a sparsely settled section,
across several interior counties that have
no railroad communications. Hewlett
and Georgetown, two small interior towns,
are reported to have been blown complete—
ly away. The following persons were in-
jured: Mrs. Flynn, Mr. Quarles and child
and John Kelly.

'duced into the burlesque "Don Juan” at

the Gaiety theater on the khedive’s com-
plaint about British officers and his subse-

quent apology was withdrawn by order Of-

the lord chamberlain, as the khedive had
formally objected.

Receiver For a Fraternal Order.
NEW YORK, Feb. 15.,—Benno Lewinsen
was today" appointed receiver by J udge
Freedman of the Orden Germanic, a. fra-
ternal benefit society, on application of
a majority of the board of directors.

In New York Harbor.

NEW YORK, Feb. 15. —-The first' we of the
season appeared' in the bay today. It- came
down with the ebb tide and passed out the
Narrows. None of it appeared very thick,
and vessels experienced no difficulty in
passing up or down the bay.

Lloyd Asplnwall Somewhat Better.
NEW YORK, Feb. 15.-—Lloyd Aspinwall,
who' Is lying dangerously ill from pneu-
monia at his residence, 58 East Twenty-

fifth street, was resting somewhat easier, -

and his physician said his condition was
somewhat improved. .
