den business on Long Island, but later"
went to Brooklyn where he was suoe
cessful in the milk business. He came
to Nor-walk some eighteen years ago
and purchased of' Flavius Clark the
place upon which he has since lived.
- He at first devoted his time to the culti-
vation of early vegetables for market,
but later went into the milk business
and established a remunerative route.
Until the ‘ last town election Mr.
Hawxhurst had ’ not been identified in
politics to any extent. At that time he
wasbefore the caucus as a candidate
for solectman but failed in getting the
nomination. He was a staunch repub-
lican. He received the nomination as
member of the town board of assessors
and was elected by a good majority.
He completed his work as a member of
the board last week Wednesday. He
was taken sick the next day, and de-
spite the best of medical attendance
and careful nursing he died as above
stated. . .
The deceased was always spoken of
as an “honest man” and was wellliked
by all who enjoyed his acquaintance.
