Ex-Mayor GeOrge Lockwodd was
quietly married last evening to Annie,
daughter of Francis S. Conley, at the
bride’s home on Taylor avenue. Rev.
B. J. Austin, of Darien, performed the
ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. F,rench of Fort
Edward, N. Y. who had leased the
Smith residence on Fairfield avenue,
and .who had intended removing here
next week, to be with their daughter,
Miss Eva French, of the Sentinel of. '
fice, will not carry out such plan for
the present, owing to the serious illness
of Mr. French.
The Young Ladies’ Whist Club was
entertained yesterday afternoon by
Miss Lena Swords, of South Main
street. Whist was played from 3 to 5
o’clock, and was followed by a supper.
The prize, a cut-glass vase, was won by
Miss Fannie Leonard, of Norwalk.
The points were counted by carnation
pinks, Miss Leonard obtaining the
greatest number.
Thomas Panelly, of Newark, was ar-
rested at the depot yesterday, charged
by Conductor Underhill with trying to
evade his fare. He left a cash bond and
was released until this morning. This
morning before Justice Barrett the
Conductor testified that Panelly had a
ticket to Darien and refused to pay his
fare after that station was reached.
Panelly swore that he purchased a
ticket for Milford and that after he
handed it to the Conductor it mysteri-
ously disappeared. He gave references
as to- his character, and told a straight-
forward story and the J usticelpromptly
'aquitted him.
Edward Taylor, of Bridgeport, came-
to this city last evening and requested
Chief Vollmer to arrest his wife Mamie
Taylor and her cousin, Ulysses L. Hob-
by, a Stamford painter, who he claimed
were living 1n adultery over the market
of Bennett & Husted on North Main
street. In company with Taylor the
officer visited the house and found both
parties occupying the same room. They
were placed under arrest and locked up.
This morning before Justice Barrett
they both pleaded guilty and were
bound over to the February term of
the Superior Court under 3300. Be-
ing unable to furnish the necessary
bonds they were taken to Bridgeport.
