J ., Oct. 20.——The jury in the czisc of Emma Woods for the murder of. saloonkeeper Lew Brown retired at 2:45 o’clock yesterday afternoon after an ex- haustive charge by Judge Depue very un- favorable to the woman. At 7 :05 o’clock in the evening the jury brought in a Verdict of guilty of man- slaughter. As Prosecutor Crane finished his address to the jury the prisoner fainted. The strain had been too great for her. Her old father was not in court at all during the day. The woman wept during the three hours and more of the prosecutor’s speech, and her little boy wept with her. , When the foreman of the jury pronounced the words “Guilty of manslaughter,” the woman fell to the floor sobbing violenty. She was carried into the jury room. The judge’s charge had been against the ’ prisoner, and it was conceded by all that the verdict must be against her. JUiVIPED FROM A \VINDOW. After Laudanum Fails Mrs. Parsons Tries Another Means of Suicide. Bosros, Oct. 20.——Mrs. C. C. Parsons, a pretty blonde, aged 35, from Barton, Vt., lies almost at the point of death an a pri- vate hospital on Chester square, from the effects of laudanum taken with a suicidal intent, while a guest at the Crawford house, Saturday night. Last evening to the dismay of the doc- tors, she suddenly jumped from her bed, and before the attendants could restrain her, she threw up a window and jumped to the ground a distance of three stories. No bones were broken, but she was badly shaken up. Last Saturday night she engaged aroom at the Crawford, retired, and was not seen again until her room was broken into Sunday night and she Was found nearly dead in bed.
