A horse driven by a ladv became
frightened by the cars yesterday after-
noon and dashed across the tracks at
Washington street. The lady lost her
hat, but pluckily held on to the reins
and stopped the runaway on South
Main street.
A lady from New Haven, who had
been visiting. friends in this city, yes-
terday had her pocket picked while
she and her little boy were taking the
4:30 p. m. train at the depot in this
city. The pickpocket secured her pock-
et-book containing a small sum of
money and a ticket for New Haven.
The bigamy ease of Aaron G. Sher-
wood was on trial before Justice Bar-
rett this morning. Several witnesses
were called to prove that Sherwood
knew that his wife’s former husband
was alive at the time of his marriage
with her. Justice Barrett found proba-
ble cause and bound Sherwood over to
the next term of the Superior court
The steamer W. H. Hoyt carried a
- ,party of twenty down to see the race
. between the Vigilant and Valkyrie yes-
terday morning. The start was made
at 4:30 a. m. and in three hours from
the start the Hoyt was gliding under.
the Brooklyn bridge. In gomg down
" the bay several races were had and the
' Hovt proved that she was not only
a good sea boat but a speedy one.
Captains Hoyt and Wilson were at the
helm and all aboard highly emoyed
the sail even though the race was not
sailed in the allotted time. The boat
arrived home this morning at 12:50.
