Norwalk and Other Towns.
The New City Government Con—
fided to Able and Honest
Hands.
There was victory all along the line
.for the Republicans of Norwalk, Mon-
day. The City of Norwalk and City
Of South Norwalk tickets were elected
without a break, and all the poSsible
candidates on the Republican Town
Ticket were. also elected. .It was a
clean sweep, as the tables following
will show. It certainly was “not a
good year for Democrats.” .They
seemed to struggle hard against their
adverse fate, but were badly handi-
capped by interual dissensions and a
strong under-current desire for a
“change” in political and business con-
ditions. The tickets elected are, how-
ever, much above the average in in-
trinsic worth and merit. Our new City
Government is confided to able and
honest hands, and theZGAzETTE extends
its congratulations to the overburden-
ed tax-payers at the auspicious result.
It is not creditable to the Norwalk
Democracy that they let that. gallant
old Union soldier, Maj-Gen. Couch,
fall below the average of his party
ticket. All in all, it was a good days’
work, and the City of Norwalk is as-
sured of an able, active and efiicient
Mayor, and a clean, upright and sensi-
ble Board of Councilmen :—

publicans won by an average majority

carried the town by 700 majority.
FAIRFIELD.
The town of Fairfield went Republi-
can by over 300 majority. Nearly all
the Democratic candidates were de-

tested. The town was regarded as
Democratic by 360 majority.
STRATFORD.
. The republican ticket was successful
in Stratford, the majorities reduced,
running from 30 to 60. All women who
had_registered voted. The town voted
no license by a majority of 10.
SSTAMFORD-
Stamford went republican. William
F. Waterbury. democrat, is elected
1:02:61 clerk. The republican majority
is .
MILFORD.
The democrats were victorious in
Milford.
NEW BRITAIN.
The entire Citizen's ticket, made up
of republicans and A. P. A. people,
won by amajority of 901. The town
voted no license by the same majority.
NEW LONDON.
In New London the republicans have
gained the town clerk by 500 majority.
The democrats carried the city offices.
NORWICH.
In Norwich the Republicans carry
the day. They have two Of the select-
men. ' The Woman vote was very large.
WATERBURY.
The democrats got the town Offices
by 700 majority. Kidder is elected
mayor. The republicans get the asses-
ors. The council is two republicans on
joint ballot.
TRUMBULL.
In Trumbull the democratic ticket
was successful.
MIDDLETOWN.
For the first time since the war Mid-
dletown has gone republican.
SHELTON.
Shelton is republican and votes for
license. .
HARTFORD..
A mixedIticket was electen in Hart-
ford. The’democratic majority was 130
in the largest offices. John G. Higgins,
the town clerk, had a close shave, his
majority being 48.
MERIDEN.
Two hundred and twenty-five women
voted in Meriden and elected a woman
on the school committee. The republi-
cans carried the day filling all the
ofiices except town clerk, Herman Hess,
democrat and present encumbent, hav-
mg no Opponent. -
