charge of assault and battery, com-
mitted in that town about four years

Justice Barrett yesterday placed

under $200 to keep the peace. .
Bates surety for Sherwood in that
amount.
The Health officer should inspect the
present city post office before an epi-
demic of disease breaks out among the
employees. It is said that the stench
sometimes is almost unbearable.
Miss Cornelia M. Webb, of Washing-
ton, D. 0.. who, with relatives, has for
the past six weeks been boarding with
a family on Cortland Place, died this
morning, aged 66 years. The remains
will be taken to New Brunswick for
burial on Sunday.
Coroner Doten has written a letter to
the officials of the Consolidated rail-
road recommending the abolishment of
the private crossing or gap in the fence
separating Wood street from the Dan-
bury & Norwalk railroad tracks near
Otto Barthol’s hat factory. It was at
this crossing that John Dargo was kill-
ed on Wednesday afternoon.
A good sized audience attended

last night and were amply repaid for
going. Hughey Daugherty was the
same old Hughey and kept the audience
in a continual roar. Ed Marble was at
his best as was Arthur Rigby. The
Tuxedo quartette rendered several fine
selections and were heartil encored.
Alice Montague and J. R. est in their
duo musicals were unusually fine.
Charles Guyer astonished the audience
with his acrobatic performance and the
French quadrille dancers were highly
enjoyed.
George Johnson and August Ander-
son are neighbors living on Raymond
street. Both of them have a large
number of young chickens which have
been in the habit of going from one
yard to another. The chickens are all
of one breed, which fact makes their
ownership rather hard to determine.
Yesterday when Anderson let his chick-
ens out they strayed over into John-
son’s yard and several of them failed. to
return. As Johnson refused to give
them up, claiming them as his, Ander-
son swore out a warrant against J ohn-
son for larceny, and officer Conley ar-
rested him last night. Justice Barrett
heard the testimony the morning and
will render a decision at 5 o’clock this
afternoon.
Alderman Judson yesterdjiy related

of a butcher. Said he, f‘About three
days ago one of my customers called
and ordered two nice large sirlom
steaks for breakfast. saying that there
was company at the house and he
wanted them extra fine. I cut him off
two of my choicest ones and sent them
down. The next morning he stopped
in and informed me that the steaks
were the finest he had ever eaten and
wanted to know it I could send him
two more as good. _ Of course I was
pleased with the compliment and said I
could send him two that were even bet.

priv sources that Anton Scorer, land-
scape painter, died recently at The Hague
at the age of 70. He was for some time a
member of the Brooklyn Academy of De-
sign. _
