rectory has decided to donate to the fam-
ilies of the firemen killed in Monday’s fire
the entire gate receipts of Sunday, July 16.
It is believed that fully $50,000 will be
realized.

One of the largest and best picnics at
Roton Point this year was that of the
big union picnic of the Grace, St. An-
drew’s and the German Methodists, of
New Haven, yesterday.
A race for cabin cat-boats, under the
auspices of the Lachmont Yacht Club,
will be held Saturday, July 20. The
race 1s open to cabin cats 28 feet and
under. Several boats from this city
will enter.
It has been sugoested that when the
city council purchase new badges for
the police force, that instead of pre-
senting Hon. Robert Bonner Bones
with a silver service, the Old tin pie
plates now worn by the force be hand-
ed over to him, for his faithful services
as janitor of the cells.

and Frank Doyle, hailing from New

Barrett this morning to the extent of

A County Ticksfi‘r'cr’s Shortage.
TIPTON, Ind., July 14.—Enough has Men
learned regarding the affairs of County
reasurer James K. Armstrong to warrant
the statement that he is short at least
820,000, with a strong probability of a
much larger deficit. The bondsrncn are
pushing the investigation. Deputy Treas-
urer Cal Armstrong, who conducted all
the business of the office, cannot be found,
' and it is thought that he has fled.
Another Molitor Murderer Found Guilty.
ALPENA, Mich, July 14. -— William
Repke, who confessed and implicated
twelve others in the murder of Albert
Molitor at Rogers City in 1875, has been
found guilty of murder in the first degree.
Repke, together with the three prisoners
who were convicted Monday of the same
crime, will probably . be sentenced to life
imprisonment at Jackson. This makes
the fifth conviction in the case.

A More Searching Pension Inquiry.
WASHINGTON, July 14.— Commissioner
Lochren, of the pension bureau, has is-
sued an order directing that hereafter, in
making calls upon the war and mvy de-
partments for information regarding the
service of applicants for pension under the
act of June 27, 1890, arequest shall be
made for the full military and medical
history of the soldier.
