The pay car on the Consolidated road
stopped in this city this morning. Ow-
ing to the 4th being a holiday, the car
was one day late. /
Joseph Levysko, who is charged with
breach of the peace, and whose case
has been continued several times, will
be tried before Justice Barrett this af-
ternoon.
While driving up Fairfield avenue
yesterday afternoon the trace on J. H.
eMott’s bakery wagon pulled out
scaring the horse who nearly upset the
wagon in his fright.
The insurance adjusters on the loss
at the Hallock Bros. box factory fire,
who met esterday, came to no agree-
ment, an adjourned until to-morrow,
when another meeting Will be held.
A committee from the South Norwalk
Athletic club is in New York to-day
looking up bath fixtures etc. for their
new club rooms in the building being

Canoe Association, which is rendezvous-

Captain John Richards and Theodore
Smith left yesterday for lake Waccabuc
where they propose to teach the natives
the art of angling. “Speeler” carried
a suspicious looking bait box and Cap-
tain John looked wise and said nothing.
General Order No. 16, received by
Colonel Frost this morning, announces
the appointment of Charles M. Joslyn,
of Hartford, as Judge Advocate Gen-
era], with the rank of Brigadier Gen-
eral on the staff of. the Governor and

A woman under the influence of liq-

The police arrested two young men

A West avenue gentleman has dis.
covered a new use for fly paper. After
all other contrivanccs had failed to
keep the pesky little insects from des-
troying the leaves of the elm trees in
front of his residence, he «laid in a
goodly stock of summer fly paper and
now keeps the trees encircled at all
times with the sticky stuff. It is need-
less to say that the remedy is effective.
Newsdealer Fred. Coleman yesterday
had a boys’ foot race from his store
across the Washington street bridge,
up East avenue to Norwalk and down
West avenue to the starting point. The
first prize, a bathing suit, was won by
Chris Fay, who covered the distance in
28 :10 ; the second pri_ze,catcher’s gloves.

prize, bathing tights, was won by

Putnam Hose company enjoyed
themselves immensely yesterday, at

shore dinner as guests of Mr. E. A.
Woodward. The boys went down on
the 10 o’clock boat and passed the
morning in swimming matches, races
etc. A base ball game was also played
in which the regular nine of the com-
pany defeated a picked,,.riine b the
score of 10 to 8. At 1:30- o’clo the
guests sat down to a. «well prepared
shore dinner to which they did ample
justice. At the conclusion "of the din-
ner speeches were made by: E. A.
Woodward, Councilman, Yolk, Era
