discharged all their employee Tuesday
evening, and announced that in a few
day they would remove to South Nor-
walk. The company employed about
200 hands, and until recently had been

menced to drop employees one by one
until when they closed Just 100 cm.

Frederick Perry of Greenfield Hill,
was found dead in his bed Wednesday
morning. He was_37 years old and had

Hurled Thirty Feet.
Frank Will, a driver of a Bridgeport
brewery wagon was delivering a truck
load of empty beer kegs at the steamer
Rosedale’s dock, Wednesday, when his
horse was struck by an express train
and killed. Will was hurled thirty
feet into the air but was not seriously
injured.

To Prison For Life.
Jacob Bechner, who shot and killed
Louis Paul in New Britain on the after-
noon of April 4th last, was Wednesday
sentenced to state prison for life in the
Superior Court at Hartford. The grand
jury indicted him for murder in the
first degree, but Bechner pleaded guilty
to the charge in the second degree, and
the plea was accepted by the state.
Driven off With Guns.
The town of Canaan is in a state of ex.
citement over an attempt .to rob the
house of Chauncey W. Smith Wednes-
day night. A gang of bur lars has
been operating in southern erkshire
for some time, and this is supposed to
have been the same crowd on its way
through Connecticut. Mrs. Smith and
her daughter were alone in the house
"and drove the burglars off. with guns.
They gave the alarm by firing the guns,
and the neighbors came to their aid. A
posse of farmers was at once organized
and tracked the burgulars, at last ac-
counts having driven into the woods.
The burglars are armed and trouble is
feared.

Lockwood-Hubbard.
One of the most notable events which
has occurred in the fashionable circles
of Norwalk society this season, was the
marriage of Miss Elizabeth Lockwood,
daughter of 001. and Mrs. Frederick
St. John Lockwood and Mr, Frank
W. Hubbard, of Huron, Michigan,
which was solemnized Wednesday even-
ing at the First Con regational church,
Rev. T. K. Noble 0 ciating. The flor-
al decorations of the church, by florist
Hanford, were elegant and very pro-
fuse, the altar being banked With palms,
corn flowers, Japanese snowballs, car-
nations and roses. _ .
Promptly' at six-thirty the wedding
part entered the church and marched
slowly up the aisle to the ever beauti-
ful strains of the wedding march from
Lohengrin, rendered by the organist,
Miss Jennie Nash. The bride, robed
in cream white satin trimmed With
round point lace flouncing and pearl
trimmings and diamond ornaments, the
handsome diamond neck pendant and
diamond bow-knot which fastened the
bridal veil being the gift of the groom,
entered the church leaning on thearm
of her father and was preceded by the
ushers, Messrs. Watson Butler, of San-
dusky, Ohio, Harry H. Good, of New
York. and Fred Lockwood, brother of
the bride.
Clarence Osborn and LeGi-and Bay-
mond, of Norwalk. Following the ush-
ers came the bride’s sister, Miss Julia
Lockwood, as maid of honor, in shaded
gold silk with lace trimmings and car-
rying a basket of yellow roses. The
groom attended by his brother, Rich-
ard L. Hubbard, of Huron, Mich, as
best man, met the bride at the altar.
At the close of the ceremony the
bridal party proceeded to the,palatial
residence of her father on East avenue,
closely followed by relatives and friends
until the house was densely crowded.
Weidenheimer’s string orchestra, sta-
tioned in the hallway, rendered numer-
ous fine selections during the evening.
and an elegant supper was served by
Margadant, of New York.
The presents received were numer-
ous and elegant, including cut-glass
and silver were of every description.
Prior to the departure of the bridal
couple from the house the bridal. bou-
quet of lilies of the valley and white
rroses, which was _ made from three sep-
arate bouquets. was untied by the bride
and thrown over the banisters. Miss
Florence Selleck capturing the gold
ring concealed in one of them, and
Will, therefore, as the saying goes, be
the next bride to follow Miss Lock-
wood.
