A horse, belonging to William Hub-
bell ran away from Clay street yester-
day afternoon and ran up on the side-
walk' in front of Jacob Linxweiler’ s sa-
lOon, where he was stopped, and the
damage to the harness, repaired.
A horse left standing on South Main
street became frightend at the cars last
evening and backed nearly into Com-
stock Brothers’ store. He was finally
gotten into the street again. The ani-
mal probably realized what bargains
could be found in this popular clothing
house.
The members of the Germania Sing-
ing society- are making extensive
preparations for their grandi Memorial
day- ball, which will be held at their
hall on Washington street bridge,
Tuesday evening, May 30th. All who
attend are assured of a pleasant time.
The fire department went out for
practice last night.

the scene of operations. Putman Hose
Company, after an exciting race, was
the winner. The different parts of the
apparatus was brought into play, lad-

line of hose run up, and other methods

bodies of four babies in a cesspo-z 11 within
about two feet of Branch Brook. on the
Croton watershed. The finding of the
bodies attracted a large crowd of villagers
tothe works of the fertilizing company.
The coroner has been notified. The bodies
were taken charge of by the town poor-
master.

Farmer, of Boston, one of the pioneers in
mechanical application of electricity to in-
' dustrial uses, died here of I-pneumonia,
aged 73 years, after a short. illness. He
derived a large revenue in royalties,‘bis in
ventions being still in use. Professor
Farmer brought to Chicago his electric
railway and other early inventions which
are instal-ledascuriosities in_,the Electrical
building.
