morning, aged 67-‘years. He had been
in feeble health for several months,
and returned only a week agofrom a
trip South. Mr. Curtis was a native
of Meriden. ,When the late Horace C.
Wilcoxr and, Rhoda-Lewis started the
Meridieujfilfitc‘fii , ‘a-yco. , Mr. Curtis was
made head bookkeeper. and afterwards
treasurer, which. positidn‘ T' he held until
his’I‘death.‘ He was an‘3‘ex-mayor, a
memberrof the'court'of Common coun-
cil. He waspresident of the Meriden
.S‘ilver Plate-Co., and ex-member of the
executive committee of the Meriden,
Waterbury & Conn. River road; a di-
r'ectcr of the Meriden Trust and Safe
Deposit‘Co., and of the William Rogers
Mfg. Co., of Hartfordgpresident of
the Meriden Horse Railroad Co., and
an officer of St. Andrew’s Episcopal
church. He leaves a widow, a son,
George M., who is assistant, treasurer
of the Britannia Co., and a daughter,
Mrs. A. B. Squire.

The Court 01" Burgesses Give the
Tramway. a Good Layout.
But Two Tracks on Wall Street.
A special meeting of the Court of
Burgesses was held Tuesday evening,
for the purpose of takin action on a
petition from the Norwa k Tramway
company asking for a change of’lay-
out through Wall street.
The Warden and full board were
present.
Attorney Perry representing the
Tramway company explained what the
company desired. He also said that
the company had already expended
$50,000 here and that the only break in
a continuous line of tracks was through
Wall street; said no satisfactory ar-
rangement in reference to location and
use of tracks could be made with the
the Horse Railway company ; the work
of completing the road must be done
before June 1st; promised to leave
street in as good condition as found ;
would comply with all the require-
ments of the new electric railway law
now awaiting the signature of the gov-
ernor. .
The following resolution was then
presented:
WHEREAS, the application of the
Norwalk Tramway company. a corpo-
ration organized under the laws of this
state and located in Norwalk, was
made to this court, dated the 22d day
said application reference is hereby
made, and said application is made
part of this order and vote as if fully
recited therein ; in which application
said Norwalk Tramway company asks
for a location of two lines of tracks
through Wall street, from Knight
street to Belden avenue, and
WHEREAS, in the opinion of this Court
the public convenience and interest
will be advanced by granting said ap-
plication and by locating through said
Wall street the two lines of tracks
prayed for in said application,
Now, THEREFORE, we the Court of
Burgesses of the Borough of Norwalk,
pursuant to the powers conferred upon
us by the charter . of said company,
and so far as we lawfully may, do here-
by order and direct as follows :
We hereby fix and determine that
the center line of one and the souther-
ly line of tracks for the said Norwalk
remove the cause and health, strength '
Tramway company, through Said Wall
street from Knight street to Belden
avenue, shall be and is hereby so lo-
cated and fixed that the nu. lherly rail
, of said line of tracks of {.36 Norwalk
& Tramway company shall be placed and
! laid southerly of and as close as practi-
5 cable to the southerly rail of the main
; track of the Norwalk Horse Railroad
company as said main track is now laid
and located.
Said northerly and southerly rails of
the respective companies tohbe as close
as practicable consistent With smooth
alignment and thorough spiking not less
than three inches nor more than twelve
inches and in general about four inches
apart. ‘
And we do hereby further order and
direct, that said second additional and
northerly line of tracks for the N or-
walk Tramway company be and is here
by located through said Wall street
from Knight street to Belden. avenue,
and we hereby fix and determine the
center line of said second line of tracks
to be from nine feet to nine feet and
six inches from the center line of the
southerly line of tracks of the: Nor-
Walk Tramway company liereinbetore
in this order located, fixed and estab-
lished.
And we do hereby further order and
direct that in those parts of Wall street,
from Knight street to High street, if
any, wherein there are no tracks of the
main line of the Norwalk Horse Rail-
road company no'w existing, or such
tracks turn at an angle to the general
course of the street, the said center
lines of the tracks of the Norwalk
Tramway company, hereby located and
fixed, shall be so located and fixed as
to make a convenient and proper con-
nection between the location hereinbe-
fore fixed by this ‘order, westerly of
said High street and the location or the
tracks of said Norwalk Tramway com-
pany in said Wall street, easterly of
said Knight street.
And we do further hereby‘order and
direct that the aforesaid location of
said northerly line of tracks for the
said Norwalk Tramway company, shall
be vacated and set aside and become
null and void, if before January lst
1895, the N orwalk Horse Railroad Com-
pany shall remove its line of tracks
from their present ,location and re-
olcate the same substantially to and up-
on the location of said northerly line
of tracks as fixed and located in this
order through Wall street, from Knight
street to Belden avenue.
And we do further hereby order and
direct that the grade of said lines of
tracks shall be the grade of the street
as found at the time of construction of
said tracks. '
And we do further fix and determine
the grade of said line of tracks to be
the grade of the highway as it shall be
found when said tracks are laid.
Burgess Glover thought that it would
be a good plan to wait a few days and
see as to what disposition was made “of
by a vote of 'four to two, Burgesses.

While workmen were engaged in ex-
cavating for the N orwalk Tramway on
Mill Hill the skull of a large animal,
petrified, was thrown out. It remained,
however, for Mr. Raymond of the firm
of Raymond & Lockwood, to make the
discovery that it was the head of a
horse that died during the Revolution-
ary fight in Norwalk.

”William O’Brien, died at his home
No. 7 School street, Sunday morning,
aged about 59, ears. He leaves a wife,
two sons and t 'ree daughters. The de-
ceased previous to moving to Norwalk
some thirty years ago' was employed at
the Hoyt nurseries in- New Canaan.
He is spoken of as having been an hon-
