State Secretary Lindsley of the state

report for April and by the figures it is

Bridgeport is credited with cases of
nearly "all of‘ the infections diseases,
among them being la grippe, diphtheria
and croup, typhoi fever and cerebra-
spinal fever. "From the latter 39 deaths
resulted in the state, the largest. num-
ber ever reported from this disease.
The secretary reports that many towns
have adopted the house to house in-
spection scheme, . .

The Hand-rail. Broke.
John Lyiich, a brakeman on the Nau- .
gatuck division, received injuries at
Stratford early .Wednesday morning
from which he died at the Bridgepdrt
depot six hours later. 'He was1 about
to jump from the rear car when the
hand-rail. broke throwing him to the
ground. and fracturing his skull. He
was brought to Bridgeport on the _
10:30 train and died in .the baggage
room. He lived in New Haven and his
relatives are. believed to live in Roch-
ester. Lynch was 26 years of age and
unmarried.

The hearing in the Butler street
grade as to the matter of damages and
benefits, was adjourned Monday after-
noon for one week. The claims for
damages presented by Mi s. McSherry
were the only ones considered yester-
day. Those of Charles Ambler repre-
senting the Lewis Olmstead estate Wlll
be presented at the next meeting of the
commissioners- Attorney Olmstead of
Stamford has been retained by Mr. Am-
bler in the hearing.

Court of Burgesses.
An adjourned meeting of the Court
of Burgesses was held Tuesday even-
ing. It was understood that the meet-
ingmas called for the purpose of pay.
ing bills only, but at the outset other
important business was introduced.
The Warden and full board were
present. After calling the meeting to
order Warden Sloan remarked that
there were some gentlemen present
who evidently wished to be heard, and
extended to them the privilege of mak-
ing their wants known.
Mr. ‘G. M. Holmes then arose and
said, that it had been suggested and
that the suggestion met with the ap-
proval of property owners in that vi-
cinity, that the layout given the tram-
way company for the laying of their
tracks from a point near the foot of
Mill Hill to a point on Wall street near
Knight street he Changed so as to run
diagonally from a point near Smith
street to said Knight street, instead
of on the southerly side of Wall street
as designated in the former layout.
Engineer Hill of the Tramway com-
pany said that the company was willing
to make such change and believed that
it would be to the advantage of the
property owners if so changed; but
added that it made no great difference
,to the company whether the change
was made or not.
Mr. John O’Sullivan who owns prop-
erty abutting on Wall street was in fa-
vor of the change.
A resolution was presented embody-
ing the change of layout.
After some discussion it was decided
that the Court of Burgesses investigate
the matter and it was voted that when
the Court adjourn that it be until 8
o’clock, Wednesday morning, at which
time definite action would be taken.
The following petition was presen-
ted by Engineer Hill of the Tramway
00. After the reading of the same it
was voted that it be tabled :
To the Court of Burgesses of Nor-
walk :—-The Norwalk Tramway com-
pany respectfully represents : That
pursuant to the terms and provisions
of its charter it requested said Court
on or about the 27th day of J une, 1889
to fix and determine the center line of
tracks it then proposed to lay through
certain highways of said borough, in-
cluding Wall street from Knight street
to Isaacs street; that thereupon said
' Court took certain action with refer-
? ence to such application and the fixing
and determining of the line and grade
of said line of tracks through said por-
. tion of said Wall street, Will-ill action is
I recorded in the records at suld Court ;
That on or about the 12tl. day of Sep-
tember 1892, said company again ap-
plied to said Court to fix and deter-
mine the center line and grade of the
single line of the tracks which it then
proposed to lay in continuation of said
first mentioned line and through cer-
tain highways in said borough includ-
ing said Wall street from said Isaacs
street to Belden avenue; That there-
upon said Court did fix and determine
such location and grade for said line of
tracks through said portion of Wall
street from Isaacs streetgto Belden av;
enue, which action is also recorded at
length in the records of said Court;
That the said Norwalk Tramway oom-
pany now proposesunder the power
and authority given it in and by its
charter, to locate, lay and construct
another, a second line of tracks through
said Wall street from Knight street to
Belden avenue, so that its tramway
through said street shall when com-
pleted consist of two lines of main
tracks rather than of the single line of

Wherefore, The said N orwalk Tram-
way Company hereby notifies said
Court of Burgesses that it so proposes
to locate lay and construct another, a
second line of tracks through said Wall
street from Knight street to Belden av-
enue, So that its tramway through said
street when completed shall consist of
two lines of main tracks; and said com~
pany hereby formally request said
Court to fix and determine the grade
. and location of its said second line of
tracks through said Wall street from
Knight street to Belden avenue. all ac-
cording to the terms and provisions of
the charter of said company.
The petition was dated Norwalk,
Conn, May 13th, 1893, and signed the

W. Mansfield, Secretary and Treasurer.

A special meeting of the Court was
held this morning Warden Sloan, Bur-
gesses Glover, Fillow, Squires and Mc-
Mullen being present. It was
Voted, That this Court, does hereby
consent so far as it lawfully may that
the center line of the tracks of the
Norwalk Tramway Company may be
changed from the location as hereto-
fore- established from a point at the
foot of Mill Hill at the easterly corner
of Wall and Smith streets to the cor-
ner of Wall and Knight, running on a
curve from the west side of Wall
street at the corner of Wall and Smith
streets to a point on the rear line ex-
tended of the Quintard building said
point to be about 7 feet from the north
curb line of Wall street, thence to a
point on the line of the front of said
Quintard building extended, said point
to be five and one-half feet. south 0
the north curb line _of Wall street,
from thence westerly intersecting the
center line of said Norwalk Tramway’s
location as heretofore established at a '
point south of and directly in front of
High street. and that the grade of the
tracks on said change be as established
this day and marked upon the curb bf
Wall street by the engineer of the bor- “L
ough. It being understood that this
change ‘is not in anyway to effect or ‘ '
alter any otherkpart of the location of
said Tramway tracks as heretofore es-
tablished.
